We are delighted to offer this rare MG PB onto the market. During 1935 the P Series was vastly improved and designated the PB and was to be the final version of the highly regarded OHC Midgets. The PB featured a vertical slatted radiator grille, revised dashboard layout and the engine capacity was increased to 939cc enabling improved performance. Only 526 of the PB’s were ever built, coming in either two seater or four seater configuration. A fastback coupe was also available.
This beautifully presented MG PB was built on the 17th September 1935 and first registered CMX 400 to a Mr J C Atkinson of Acton in West London. The PB was supplied new in Green, with Green upholstery and spent its early years in London. This delightful PB was supplied new by Chantry Motors of Ealing and copies of some of the original purchase paperwork is with the car along with many early invoices and correspondence from MG Works. A Green continuation ‘buff' logbook confirms the cars owners from 1964 and by the 1980's the MG was ready for a major rebuild.
During the early 1980's CMX 400 was subject of a chassis up rebuild and on completion was supplied by a well known pre-war MG specialist. MOT records are on file from the late 1980's recording sensible annual mileage and confirm the PB has covered 16, 000 miles since the rebuild. The MG has been used for shows, rallies and events, and some photos in the history file show it at Brooklands during the early 2000's.
Many years on since restoration this MG still presents beautifully, and in more recent years has been re-painted. The cars Ulster and Dublin Green paintwork is of a very high standard, as is the bodywork and chrome. The delightfully aged interior is very smart, the engine bay very well presented and the PB comes with weather equipment. CMX 400 runs lovely with a strong engine holding very good oil pressure, gear changes feel nice up and down the gearbox and the car handles very well. The MG is a delight on the road, and with such low mileage since its restoration, it still feels firm and tight on the road, and is strong, robust and very usable.
