DESCRIPTION
The P100 was based on a medium-sized Ford passenger car, originally the Cortina/ Taunus and from 1988 the Ford Sierra. Built initially in South Africa, and later Portugal for the European market to a design set out by Ford UK. On later models a fibreglass canopy was offered as an option.
EXTERNAL
Based on the sierra front end with a ladder chassis for which the pickup tray was mounted, the P100 proved a popular vehicle due to ability to fill many roles, With the sleek bonnet leading to the infamous grey bumpers with the red pin stripe insert front and rear, With additional side protector strips incorporating the red bumper stripe enabling a uniformed appearance on the glossy Ford Diamond White Paintwork (CODE FBP). Complete with the original light units front and rear. Standard on the P100 the rear drop down tub hatch working as ford intended enabling loading the flatbed easy. With this particular model comes a custom made load cover protector purpose built specifically for this vehicle to the tune of £465. 00. No expense has been spared on this vehicle with having genuine Ford logo rear mud flaps fitted also as a factory option. The panels are all uniform and present in very good condition consistent with the level of detail and maintenance that has been carried out over the years.
INTERNAL
Open the door and you step back in time to the late eighties and early nineties of cloth and plastic trim which are all in pristine condition, The two front passenger seats present well with chequered ford cloth trim as do the light grey door cards, With basics being the key on what should have been a workhorse you have the wind up windows which work perfectly, Keeping to the grey affect the interior carpet presents well with little sign of wear and covered with Ford livery carpet mats. The headlining’s clean and bright as expected with the level of detail and originality that accompanies this vehicle. The dashboard shows no signs of cracks or fading along with all the switchgear which remains original and correct and working well, The original steering wheel shows little sign of wear, The basic original Ford radio remains with push button pre-set stations-Pure class. A cigarette lighter and manual heating controls complete the interior switches along with a manual choke which works as intended. Overall a lovely interior basic however just what customers wanted back in the day that has proven to stand the test of time.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
With the legendary 2. 0 litre OHC Ford Petrol Pinto engine under the bonnet with manual choke which runs well, Having been maintained to the highest standard over the years housing various motorcraft consumables coupled to a 5-speed synchromesh gearbox and rear wheel drive. Drives very well and engages all gears with ease as expected with a vehicle of this calibre.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Having original 5-stud Ford steal wheels fitted in immaculate condition shod with new 185/ R14 tyres on each corner and original Ford centre caps. Having vented disc front brakes and drum to the rears, With added vacuum assistance fitted to ensure you are brough to a steady controlled stop.
