Complete history
The car was newly ordered in 1934 by New York Bugatti importer George Rand.
The chassis was delivered to England, where it was fitted with a three-position drop head coupe body by Gurney Nutting.
However, after a test drive in Brooklands, Rand was not satisfied with the performance, so the car was returned to the factory. There, the engine was completely overhauled and the compression was increased to improve performance.
Later in 1934, the car was finally delivered to New York and exhibited by Rand at the Grand Central Palace Auto Show. It was the first Type 57 in the USA.
Rand owned the car for eight years. In 1937, he had the roof slightly modified by Brewster and Co. to create a “Sedanca Coupé.” That year, he also drove ARCA races.
In 1942, Rand sold the Bugatti to the famous Hollywood actor Keenan Wynn.
In the decades that followed, the car remained in California with several owners. It was also exhibited for some time at the Briggs Cunningham Museum in Costa Mesa.
In 1982, Garage Guggisberg imported the Bugatti to Switzerland.
Since then, it has been owned by enthusiasts in this country who have taken great care to preserve the car. The original 3-position drop head coupé shape has also been restored.
It has always been driven, and in recent years the vehicle has even completed long journeys of several thousand kilometres.
A special opportunity to acquire one of the most historically significant Type 57s with one-off coachwork, a complete history, and the original engine.
