Description
The 668 was Laverda’s big comeback. The firm, established in 1873, began making motorcycles in 1949 and established a reputation for robust, well-built models. By the early 90s, things were on the slide, and it required a big cash bailout. Flush with that cash, the result was the 668. It mixed the firm’s proven mechanicals, like its four-stroke 70hp DOHC parallel twin, with modern superbike-inspired aesthetics.
These exceptionally rare bikes are well-regarded for their light, nimble handling and cornering prowess. The Diamante dialled up the cosmetic drama with a half fairing, two-piece dual seat, passenger grab handle, 2-in-2 exhaust with twin silencers and black 3-spoke aluminium wheels. The brakes and suspension were upgraded.
Less than 1, 000 668s are believed to have been built, and just one is road registered in the UK. This 1998 668 Diamante, then, is an exceptional opportunity to develop your collection with one of Italy’s rarest bikes.
It has covered just 10, 632 km (6, 606 miles) from new, which is verified by MOT records. Since 2020, it has been part of the seller’s large private collection and used sparingly. It has covered less than 150kms since the last advisory-free MOT test in August 2021.
This factory-standard Diamante is in very good condition. It runs and comes to market with fresh fuel and a new battery.
