Atelier des 1000 is delighted to offer for sale this 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster, presented in an elegant black configuration paired with an interior finished in Florida Cognac leather.
Introduced in 1948, the XK120 represents a major milestone in Jaguar's history. Developed around the new XK six-cylinder engine, it quickly became a benchmark amongst the sports cars of its era thanks to its performance and the elegance of its design. With a top speed exceeding 190 km/ h, it would help establish the British marque's sporting reputation for decades to come.
The example we are offering is "matching numbers" and benefited in 2023 from a comprehensive restoration at a renowned workshop, with costs exceeding €45, 000.
Mechanically, the straight-six engine starts easily and runs smoothly. The engine pulls strongly, accompanied by the characteristic sound of the Jaguar six-cylinder.
The gearbox shifts crisply, the ratios are fluid and the clutch operates without showing any signs of weakness.
Braking is excellent thanks to the conversion to assisted disc brakes, substantially improving the driving experience.
The original fuel tank has been replaced with an aluminium unit.
The cooling system has also been thoroughly overhauled, the radiator has been restored and a Kenlowe electric fan has been fitted.
Finally, the exhaust system has been replaced with a stainless steel version produced by Bell, offering a slightly freer note and increased longevity.
During the restoration, the alignment was corrected, the bodywork was completely stripped and several panel repairs were carried out to perfect the coachwork before receiving a complete respray in this superb deep black. Epoxy and polyester primers were applied to guarantee excellent durability.
The chrome has not been overlooked and is perfectly gleaming.
The wheels were also repainted during the operation and four new tyres fitted.
The overall presentation bears witness to the care lavished on this restoration and the pursuit of excellence.
The interior has undergone a comprehensive high-quality refurbishment with velvet-trimmed carpets that fit perfectly, and all elements have been carefully trimmed, offering the cabin a perceived quality noticeably superior to the original, which fully contributes to the elegance of this XK120.
Finally, its original Bakelite steering wheel is in perfect condition and offers a feel typical of this era.
