A piece of sporting motorcycle history: a Norton Manx 350 (Model 40M) from 1953 (Frame series 48800). This example dates from the golden year of the introduction of the "short stroke" engine, mounted on the legendary Featherbed frame.
The motorcycle has undergone a comprehensive high-level conservative and mechanical restoration.
The twin-cam engine has been overhauled in accordance with the original specifications of the period. The chassis and bodywork (tank and fairings) are in excellent condition, ready to be displayed in a collection or used at historic events (Historic re-enactments, Historic GPs).
Included with the bike is an authentic period racing sidecar. The sidecar currently requires restoration, representing a unique opportunity for an enthusiast to bring back to track or display a complete competition "outfit" with invaluable original patina.
The Norton Manx 350 is celebrated for its handling and its successes at the Tourist Trophy.
The Sidecar: An authentic Watsonian Sidecar, the "torpedo" style chair that dominated sidecar racing in the 1950s. The C-series frame confirms its belonging to Watsonian's specialist production of those years. The sidecar is preserved and requires restoration, offering the perfect complement to an already perfect motorcycle.
The combination with an original sidecar from the same period makes this lot extremely rare on the international market.
