Description
This wonderful driving, UK home market matching numbers Jaguar XK120 OTS has been with its last owner for 37 years, HWS 900 was supplied new by Rossleigh in Scotland, first registered on the 1st March 1951 and we known from a ‘Green’ continuation logbook that the XK was owned by a Mr Robertson near Peebles in 1961. The Jaguar changed hands, staying local in nearby Biggar before coming into the hands of its long term owner, a Manchester based barrister in 1986.
The car was purchased after a 1980's restoration and forty years on since the rebuild, this XK presents as a lovely, aged older restoration. Since purchase in 1986, the long term owner has covered less than 5000 miles in the car but has kept it superbly maintained throughout ownership. In 1989 Stratton (Wilmslow) Ltd carried out major work to include replacing the rear crank seals and cosmetic work to include arranging bumper re-chroming. A firm called Cutting Edge also carried out work to the car in 1989, this included a new hood, sidescreens, window chromes, renewed seat frames and various new rubbers. In 1990 the XK was valued at £110, 000-£115, 000 telling us the high standards of the car all those years ago.
In 1991 the head was subject of new valve guides, machining seats and rebuilding the cylinder head and from 1999 Paradise Garage in Cheshire have looked after the XK with many invoices on file over a 20 year period. The invoices detail general maintenance, upkeep and basic repair work ensuring the XK120 was always completely on the button and ready to drive at any point. The XK arrives with us a lovely driver with a strong XK 3442cc six cylinder engine holding very good oil pressure and offering impressive performance. The gear changes are nice and tight, the XK handles very well, brakes feel sharp, it really is delightful on the road.
HWS 900 presents well with a nice straight body, bright forty year old paintwork and has a delightfully aged upholstery in Light Green. The chassis is structurally excellent, the engine bay wel presented as expected with a usable, not show level XK120. This is a car that has the provenance of long term ownership, is a UK matching numbers car and will suit someone looking for a smart, strong and usable XK120 for weekend adventures, touring and the classic car events and show season. The XK comes with its original steering wheel and gear knob, original handbook, MOT's back to 1988, Jaguar Heritage certificate and ‘Green' continuation logbook.
