Description
This 1951 matching numbers roadster was delivered new to dentist Fred Mort from Ayr. He campaigned the car heavily from 51 to 54 both circuit racing and hill climbing. Fred became acquainted with Lyons and had quite a bit of help from the works setting the car up with modifications of C type linings and a ram air box designed by Jaguar which fed air from drivers headlamp once removed . This and Hugh Howarths car was the first two with this along redesigned wheels with air scoops which predate the racing teams carrying out these mods. The car has been driven to success by the late Iain Stewart one of the Ecuire Eccose founding drivers and also Manx tt rider Bob Kerr and reportedly Iain Appleyard.
The car comes with a huge history file and is all matching numbers including gearbox, axle, block and chassis. It was reunited in its current form at Bo'ness Revival with Iain Stewart in 2012 60 years since winning there and 61 since Iain's success at Turnberry.
