Beschreibung

Built in 1958 and first registered in 1959 this MK1 Jaguar is a great example with a solid chassis and great panel fit. She’s had five (documented) owners from new with the first two owners keeping her for over 40 years. Having gone through recent recommissioning and being well cared for throughout her life this compact Jaguar starts ‘on the button’ or at worst on the second attempt. She has without doubt the sweetest Moss gearbox I’ve ever encountered bar none. To compliment this, the overdrive does work (so often not the case) and matched up to a later electronic power steering system, discreetly fitted, means that it’s always a pleasure driving this car.

Although repainted in 2007 the body was in very good condition, no doubt helped by the fact that the car was residing in Africa, and to this day the panels remain bubble free. Solid crows feet, and strong and rust free chassis make this original Jaguar a safe investment. She’s road tax free and MOT exempt of course.

Should you wish this car would be ideal for a 3. 4 conversion offering a sound and documented history file for you to start with a peach rather than a lemon.

She has a full tool kit. Original jack. Wheel spat removal tool. Five new tyres and runs on unleaded. All the electrics work as does the heater (although to be honest it’s not very effective when compared to modern vehicles).

Negatives:
As mentioned panel gaps are great however some oversized door rubbers have been fitted and consequently push through the gaps thereby giving spoiling the lines somewhat.

The drivers door locking mechanism has jammed in the locked position. I’ve stripped it down but not finding anything obviously wrong have come to the conclusion that a component is missing. You can still open the door from the inside.

The only bit of rust on the chassis is the right/ front tubular jacking tube that at some point must have trapped water thanks to the rubber bung. This is quite common and hasn’t affected the chassis itself, only the tube.

The revcounter is lazy but operational.

The chrome work is pitted around the lights and grills, and the front bumper has some chrome areas lifting, but only in a couple of small areas.

Overall the car presents very well, drives beautifully and is an extremely rare sight on our roads. In short driving her is always an experience and a pleasure.

Recent works completed: New bake master cylinder fitted & alternator restored.
