There is no questioning that the Ford GT40 is one of the most alluring racing cars of all time and 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the first of the Blue Oval's four Le Mans victories, which the company is marking by a return to La Sarthe with its all-new, GT40-inspired GT.
The handsomely-presented car now offered is a GTD GT40 MKI evocation, complete with 'Gurney bubble' in the roof. It is finished in the Ford colours of White and Blue and trimmed in Blue leather. Power comes from a 302ci (4. 9-litre) small-block Ford V8 engine fed by an 820 Holley carburettor and dual pumps and filters. The car is understood to have been constructed in 1995 by former racing driver Gordon Mayers, who assisted GTD with the development of their evocations, and whose Penn Motor Company concern assembled quite a number of their products over the years; reputedly to a very high standard. The previous keeper acquired 'GTF 11F' in 2006, when it had recorded just 530 miles. The gentleman that I purchased it off purchased it two years ago and has subsequently invested considerable time and money on it. The many new items installed by a professional race engineer include: AP Racing front discs and 4-pot calipers; springs and adjustable dampers; adjustable pedal box; master cylinders; rose-jointed front suspension; fuel pumps and high flow filters; Avon tyres all-round; gear lever and rod linkage (in place of the original cable set-up). Anybody who's ever travelled in a GT40 will be pleased to hear it also has air conditioning - the cockpit can get mighty warm without!
The indicated mileage now stands at a warranted 14, 500 and the fast Ford is being sold complete with MOT certificates back to 1996, original build manual, wiring diagrams and performance figures and graphs. The registration number is not included but could be acquired by separate negotiation.
