Very rare opportunity.
Modified Alfa 105 cylinder head in the Jim Kartalamakis style.
Modified Alfa 105 Nord cylinder heads are rarely seen on the s/ h market, they're so expensive to buy new, (around £3000 - £4000), and usually change hands between the Alfisti.
This 2 litre cylinder head came to me on a car I bought 3 years ago.
I never drove it, so have no idea of how the engine performed, I had my own fast road engine already built for the car, so the engine came out straight away, and the cylinder head was dry stored for possible future use.
It has been fully ported and gas flowed similar to the method described in Alfa Nord "Guru" Jim Kartalamakis's books. Very big inlet ports, enlarged exhaust ports, combustion chamber work, etc.
A huge amount of hours goes into porting a cylinder head to this degree.
I can see that it has had several new valves which appear to be standard size, (not unusual in Alfa tuning circles, some Alfa Guru's recommend leaving the standard size valves in place, and also most Alfa tuners believe that the standard size exhaust valves are too big anyway, saying that the power for a fast road engine comes from porting, compression ratio, and good camshafts).
The previous owner also said that it had only done 800 miles since the engine was rebuilt, and at that time it also had new valve guides, & the very expensive Kent valve springs.
I would believe the mileage, as it only took a wipe with a cloth to clean the exhaust ports, and the combustion chambers.
There are no visible cracks anywhere around any of the valve seats.
The factory cylinder head thickness is 112. 014mm (4. 410"), and as well as I can measure, this one measures 111. 7/ 111. 8mm (4. 401"), so at some point it has had a light skim to clean up. (around 10 thou), so plenty of room to have the cylinder head shaved a good deal more if you are using standard pistons and want to increase the compression ratio
The auction includes everything you see in the listing, inc cam followers, camshaft bearing caps and timing chain tensioner.
I am more than satisfied with my own engine, having put enough miles on it now, and more than likely will never get to use this one, hence the sale.
