Beschreibung

Start with a Spyder spaceframe chassis and modified 1972 Lotus Elan mechanicals, then top it off with a 1961 Lola Mk1 bodyshell (like a smaller C/ D type Jaguar) and this is the result – a truly unique classic which goes, stops, corners and turns heads!

• Spyder spaceframe chassis with adjustable suspension
• Dry-sumped, Lotus Twin Cam engine with oil cooler and electric fan
• Tranex 4-speed gearbox
• Limited Slip Differential
• Discs all round
• Knock on wire wheels
• 4-point harnesses (driver’s is nearly new with 5th point not fitted)
• Genuine Lola MK1 body with correct screen, period mirrors, fuel cap and other fittings
• Lovely period patina
• No MoT or road tax required and embarrassingly cheap insurance

The car benefits from an electronic distributor (can be converted back to points if you’re a masochist as I have the original distributor, of course). The Momo quick release steering wheel can also be changed back to the original Lola leather trimmed wheel if you like.

Despite it’s age, you can never beat the physics of light weight and power. The rapidity of this car never fails to please – not R500 quick but it’s definitely no slouch, even by modern standards!

Of course it’s not 100% perfect, which is why I bought it and why the next owner will want it too. Everything is accessible thanks the clam shell bonnet and boot sections. Everything is still available too, being largely Lotus derived. Everything is analogue too in this digital age (except the distributor which the only concession).

Upgrades in my tenure include:

• Accuspark Electronic Distributor, nicely mapped to the engine
• Momo quick release steering wheel
• Throttle cable linkage
• New custom made tacho cable (no bouncy needle!)

Also included in the asking price are:
• Fully refurbished twin-40s, just need jets swapping from existing (cost upwards of £500)
• Brian James Minno trailer (with unfitted forward tyre rack and storage box)

On the “to do list?
• There was some wear under the rear scuttle (rubbing exhaust)
• I planned to change the rear silencer to a side exit, in keeping with most Mk1s
• Possible respray – this is an early GRP shell with some stone crazing, but it’s structurally very sound and strong. In my view it’s better with the period age-related imperfections!
• Replace passenger harness to match drivers
• Install the ‘new’ twin 40 carbs (included in asking price)
• Refitting chrome bezels to rear lights (took some finding, but I now have some good ones)

Why on earth am I selling this brilliant car? Try building a house, running a business, travelling and too many competing interests/ projects. I have done barely 100 miles in the last year and both our garages are full to bursting with furniture etc during the house project.

Genuinely interested parties are welcome to view in Bristol area by appointment, but no dealers, tyre-kickers and dreamers please. The price is for the complete package and I will only split if a sensible offer is made for the car.

The price is fair given the uniqueness of this car - try finding, let alone affording a genuine Mk1 Lola - it would be 3-4 times this price!!
