The W113, commonly known as the Pagoda, takes its name from the curved shape of its hardtop and owes its pencil stroke to the famous French designer Paul Bracq, who was commissioned to design the replacement for the 190 and 300 SL, a successful gamble with this timeless design and its lines of total fluidity. The example we are offering is of French origin, it was registered on 19/ 06/ 1965 and has recently undergone a major restoration. The current owner purchased it from his uncle in 2018, who had owned it since 1996.
We have a large file of invoices tracing the history of the vehicle since 1988, and over the last 6 years more than €20, 000 worth of work has been undertaken. The paintwork has recently been redone, and the whole car looks great. The bodywork seals have been replaced on occasion.
Inspection of the underbody revealed no corrosion.
All the chrome is perfectly shiny. The upholstery has also been redone and is superb and perfectly fitted. The door trim, dashboard, sun visors and the carpets in the passenger compartment and boot have also been refurbished. The woodwork has a slight patina which adds a certain charm to the interior of this cabriolet.
The original Bakelite steering wheel is in good condition and has no cracks, while the original VDO instrumentation is fully functional. The soft top, which has also been replaced, is made from top-quality Alpaca and the original hard top is present. The mechanicals are in good order, with the 6-cylinder 2. 3 Bosch-injected engine developing 150bhp and starting easily and smoothly. The mechanical 4-speed gearbox guides and locks correctly, while the clutch shows no signs of weakness.
The running gear is in good condition and the car is pleasant to drive, the braking is balanced and the suspension does its job well. The exhaust system is in good condition. The Barock light alloy wheels are new and fitted with Michelin MXN tyres that were replaced on occasion.
