Description
For sale is a superb 1969 Jaguar E-Type Cabriolet 4. 2 Series 2, a car that continues to fascinate. Its rich 60-year career has made it the symbol of rock stars and Hollywood divas. Launched in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, the E-type followed on from the XK150, well known for its victories at Le Mans. At the end of the Geneva Show, where it was presented, it caused quite a stir and the order books were already full. Its price defied all competition, for an extremely powerful engine. It was the cheapest sports car in its segment and at the same time the fastest production car in the world, with a top speed of 240 km/ h. It was a huge commercial success and enjoyed a long career from 1961 until production of the cabriolet ended in 1974. A total of 72, 507 examples were built, with 5 series in all, series 1 covering series 1 3. 8, series 1 4. 2 and series 1 1/ 2. It was particularly successful in the United States, where our model was first exported, and like all export models was fitted with two Stromberg carburettors giving it a power output of 170 hp.
When it returned to France, it was 'Europeanised' and returned to its full 265hp with three SU carburettors. Our model is in an excellent state of preservation after an almost total renovation, having had its last coat of paint in 2021. It is fitted with a 6-cylinder 4. 2L engine and a 4-speed manual gearbox. The mechanics are in very good condition, as evidenced by the cleanliness of the engine compartment, the original red bodywork and the black leather interior, some parts of which, such as the door and boot trims, have recently been redone. The bonnet is also new, and the car is sold with a tonneau cover. The engine bonnet and doors are almost perfectly aligned, indicating the good health and, above all, the smooth history of our model. The chassis is also in excellent condition, having been changed on its return from the USA. The 'Eiffel Towers', emblematic parts of the chassis, look as good as new, as our Jaguar is so well maintained. The current owner has recently had the brakes and ignition system overhauled, and the three SU carburettors are perfectly tuned, allowing the engine to start from a standing start and run smoothly. Its short gearbox is particularly precise and comfortable. This Jaguar has an almost complete history, and its DRIRE and UTAC records dating back to 2004 will allow you, if you wish, to easily register it as a collector's car. In addition to these two complete files, its current owner has a large number of invoices and the maintenance booklet. This jaguar is always in a safe place and is pampered by its owner, who is a total fan of legendary British models. Its attractive price, given its condition, makes it as affordable as it was in 1969, compared with the Porsches and Ferraris of the time.
