Description
Produced from 1953 to 1956, the Austin Healey 100 owes its name to its top speed: 100 miles per hour, i. e. 160 kph, not bad at all for a two-seater, with a 2. 6‑litre four‑cylinder engine developing 90 bhp. The early versions were built with a 3‑speed gearbox until 1956, the year it was renamed the 100‑6 (for 6 cylinders with a 4‑speed gearbox). Both the 100 and the 100‑6 sold around 15, 000 units each over three years of production for each version.
This model was replaced by the Austin Healey 3000 from 1959.

Delivered new in 1954 to the USA and originally black with a red interior, we are fortunate to have a huge amount of period documentation, largely detailing the life of this fine Austin. Indeed, we have several folders containing invoices, conversations (emails and letters), a current registration certificate and even the American plates (California) — one of which is still in its packaging (!). These folders are numerous and so wide that we couldn’t photograph all the documents; please see our website for the full set of folders.
In August 2014 (2, 658 miles on the clock), its current Belgian owner purchased it, and after 11 years of regular use decided to sell it to buy another car.
The bodywork presents well but is not perfect: there are, in places, small cracks in the paint. On the plus side, there is no corrosion, which is very good and important. It has undergone a substantial restoration; we have photos of this restoration. The chrome bumpers are in excellent condition, as are the wire wheels (magnificent!).
The interior is nice, with generally low wear (seat, carpets) but it does not require refurbishment and presents very well. The steering wheel and dashboard are in very good condition. The tonneau cover is very clean as well. The hood/ soft top is rather tired and would benefit from attention.
Regarding the mechanics, we have a large quantity of period invoices. It has continued to be well maintained by its owner.
In fact, the latest MOT report dates from February 2022 (5, 684 miles on the clock) and mentions no technical remarks about the car.
Additionally, it has covered 150 km to come to our premises without any issues. Note a minor oil leak visible on the floor (see photos on our ramp).
It also features a functional Overdrive.
We also have a 2014 appraisal confirming the very good condition of this Austin Healey 100.
Beyond this report, we possess the 2014 authenticity certificate, the user manual, a spare wheel and period tools — remarkable to have these on a car over 70 years old!
