Description
Produced from 1953 to 1956, the Austin Healey 100 owes its name to its top speed: 100 miles per hour, i. e. 160 km/ h, not bad at all for a 2-seater, with a 2. 6L four-cylinder engine developing 90 bhp. The early versions were built with a 3-speed gearbox until 1956, the year it was named the 100-6 (for 6 cylinders with a 4-speed box). Both the 100 and the 100-6 sold around 15, 000 units each over 3 years of production for each version.
This model was replaced by the Austin Healey 3000 from 1959.
NYC’s/ OXOTO presents for sale this very fine grey example, with blue leather interior, currently showing less than 7, 000 miles on the odometer.
Delivered new in 1954 in the USA and originally black with a red interior, we are fortunate to have an ENORMOUS amount of period documents, largely tracing the life of this lovely Austin. Indeed, we have several folders containing invoices, conversations (emails and letters), a registration certificate and even the American plates (California), one of which is still in its packaging (!). These folders are numerous and so extensive that we could not photograph all the documents; see our website for the full set of folders.
In August 2014 (2, 658 miles on the odometer), its current Belgian owner bought it and after 11 years of regular use, he decided to resell to buy another car.
The bodywork is sound but not perfect: there are cracks in the paint at various points. However, it is free of corrosion, which is very good and important. Note that it has undergone a thorough restoration; we have photos of this restoration. The chrome on the bumpers is in excellent condition, as are the wire wheels (magnificent!).
The interior is beautiful, with generally low wear (seat, carpets) but it does not require renovation; it presents very well. The steering wheel and dashboard are in very good condition. The tonneau cover is also very clean. The hood we have is rather aged, so it should probably be renewed.
Regarding the mechanicals, we therefore have a large quantity of period invoices. It has continued to be well maintained by its owner.
In fact, the latest technical inspection report dates from February 2022 (5, 684 miles on the odometer) and mentions no technical remarks about the car.
Moreover, it has travelled 150 km to reach our premises, without any trouble. Just note an oil leak visible on the ground (see photos on our ramp).
It also has the Overdrive which is fully functional.
We also have a 2014 expert report confirming the very good condition of this Austin Healey 100.
In addition to this report, we have the authenticity certificate issued in 2014, the user manual, a spare wheel and the period tools—amazing to have all of that on a car over 70 years old!
A ramp is also available on our premises to show you the underside of the car.
