1937 Delahaye 134

Highlights

  • Comprehensively restored over a ten-year period using original parts
  • Purchased in France in 1984 and restored from a poor condition
  • Chassis and bodywork sandblasted and repainted, engine completely overhauled
  • Stored in a dry garage since restoration completion
  • Registered in France with French registration documents

The Appeal

Delahaye were one of the most sophisticated French marques of the pre-war era, and for many have become synonymous with Europe during the art-deco era. Handsome sweeped arches and a sophisticated radiator may give it a very stately appearance, but the car was - in truth - intended for the everyman, who doubtless found it a fine, fine car.

This particular example has undergone a meticulous ten-year restoration process, bringing it back to its former glory after being purchased in France in 1984 in poor condition. The comprehensive restoration included sandblasting and repainting the chassis and bodywork, along with a complete engine overhaul, all using original parts that were sourced over the decade-long project.

History and Paperwork

  • Purchased by the current owner in France in 1984
  • Believed to have had 3 former registered keepers, though this cannot be confirmed with absolute certainty
  • Underwent a comprehensive restoration over a period of almost 10 years
  • Registered in France with French registration documents
  • Has been stored in a dry garage since the completion of the restoration

The Condition

  • Bodywork presents with some age and use-appropriate wear marks
  • Minor traces visible on the door frame, lower wing area, and door sill where some repairs have been made
  • Small signs of wear on the bonnet, particularly from regular opening and closing
  • A small section of rubber seal on the windscreen is slightly loose, but not porous or damaged
  • Interior preserved in original condition and carefully maintained
  • Seats upholstered in original blue and light grey leather
  • No modifications have been made to the interior
  • The vendor states all instruments, switches, and controls are functional

The Mechanics

  • 2151cc straight-four engine
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Engine bay is in good order
  • True-to-factory spec
  • Has been restored with original components
  • Vehicle has been standing for approximately 1 year but reportedly starts immediately
