The Appeal

First unveiled to the public in 1969, the popular, stylish and indeed sporty Ford Capri was marketed as an affordable two-plus-two coupe aimed squarely at the blue-collar working man.

The Mk2 came along in 1974 with revised styling and a practical hatchback, with the XL model being an update from the 1600GT, featuring plush trim levels. One of Dagenham’s finest, almost 1.9 million examples across three generations were sold in the 17 year production run.

Here we have a genuine exceptionally low mileage ’70’s survivor resplendent in a fresh coat of Sunset Red paintwork and sporting an immaculate black vinyl roof and factory XL specification cabin. The vendor highlights how remarkably solid this Mk2 is, only requiring minor preparation prior to it’s recent exterior repaint.

The mechanicals have also been renewed over the last few years and the peppy 1.6-litre Kent engine serviced to ensure reliability.

Appealing to any Ford enthusiast or collector, this iconic Capri is bound to impress at any Ford meet or classic car show and should only go up in value. To coin the Ford phrase, this could be “The car you always promised yourself”.

This ‘timewarp’ Capri was initially registered to a Ford main dealer in 1975 and was purchased two months later by the first private owner who bought it for his wife to use as a local shopping car. Accumulating around 20,000 miles in their 19 years ownership, it was sold in 1994 to a member of the Capri Owners Club in Crawley. The car was then dry stored until 2018 when the owner began the process of overhauling the fuel, cooling, braking and exhaust systems (see photo of accompanying history notes).

Due to health problems, the owner was unable to fully complete the project, hence the eventual sale to the vendor who has commissioned the recent body restoration and attended to a few minor servicing items.
