Highlights
- Exceptionally low mileage, with just 7.7 miles indicated on the odometer
- Impeccably preserved in its original, unused condition
- Substantial history file and original book pack
The Appeal
The Triumph Bonneville is without doubt one of the most important British motorcycles of all time, named after Johnny Allen’s 214.4 mph run on Bonneville Salt Flats in 1956, riding a Triumph streamliner. The American monika would prove to be a fantastic sales tactic across the pond and the Boneville would remain a mainstay of Triumph’s range for many years to come.
Here we have a rather special 1977 “Silver Jubilee” which has covered just 7 miles from new! Utterly original and practically ‘new old stock’, this collector-grade Triumph has been a display piece for a number of years and is now in need of a new owner.
The History and Paperwork
- Original owner’s handbook and tool kit - both in excellent, unused condition
- Previously sold by Sotheby’s in 1996 and Bonhams in 2020
- The vendor states that it has had two previous owners, the first until 1996
- Having been a display piece, it is not currently in running order
- UK market supplied - one of one thousand “Silver Jubilees” allocated for Britain
- A further 1,400 were made for Europe
- Just 7.7 miles on the odometer
- Supplied new to aAtriumph dealer in 2007 and it remained with them until it first went to auction
- Sotheby’s invoice and catalogue present from their NEC sale on 6th May 1996
- Correspondence from the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club, confirming the bike’s authenticity
- Matching numbers
- Never registered
- No keys as they were lost by the second owner
- Supplied new to a Triumph dealer in 1977.
The Condition
- Entirely original and unrestored
- Having barely been ridden, there’s no wear to speak of
- No notable blemishes or any damage apparent
- Free from structural corrosion or deterioration of the rubber / plastic components
- The tyres do not appear to be perished
- The petrol tank is empty and very clean inside
- All “Silver Jubilee” badges and stickers in fine order
- The stickers on the headlamp bezel have faded somewhat
- Impeccable paint and seat upholstery
- Very light surface corrosion to the frame where it meets the rear mudguard which has caused the black paint to bubble slightly
The Mechanics
- 750 cc parallel twin
- Twin amal carburettors
- Five-speed gearbox
- The exhaust is in excellent condition
- Not currently in running order, as the bike has solely been a display piece throughout its life
Summary
It isn’t often you find a 46 year old motorcycle with just seven miles on the odometer - let alone one in such fine original condition as this Triumph Bonneville. If you’re looking for a ‘time capsule’ classic Triumph to display, or recommission, this would be an excellent candidate.
