Prior to being succeeded by the 9-5, the 9000 was Saab’s mighty contender in the executive car market, spanning over 14 years through a multitude of variants. Perhaps most desirable of all, are the incredibly rare Carlsson models, named in honour of Swedish rally legend Erik Carlsson.
The Carlsson model showcases a very tasteful body kit, numerous technological improvements over the base model, and superior performance. The Carlsson models available to the UK pack a 2.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder, capable of producing around 190hp on the books. Lightly modified examples such as this, however, are capable of producing far more, and will easily surprise many vehicles on the road.
Despite the 9000 Carlsson being a truly incredible machine to drive, many examples have been neglected over the years, falling to age and corrosion. Presented today is a very rare opportunity to own a freshly resprayed example, that benefits from years of care, and drives superbly.
If you’re looking for the chance to own one of these rare beasts, this is an opportunity you simply cannot afford to miss.
Nearly £10,000 spent on such as new suspension, brakes, top end engine rebuild, wheels newly refurbished, virtually new tyres (only 300 miles) and thoroughly cleaned underside and then lanoguarded (absolutely no rust underneath).
The History and Paperwork
Plenty of original components
Well maintained over the years
Long MOT until March 2023
V5C document present
As is seemingly the case with many desirable retro performance cars, this Saab has certainly been enjoyed over the years, with a total of 12 former keepers, and 143k now shown on the clock. Despite its mileage and owner count, the car performs brilliantly and has been treasured by the current owner, who is an avid Saab enthusiast.
Although the vehicle doesn’t include a great deal of paperwork, as a result of previous owners over the years, the vehicle does have a long MOT, until March 2023. Also included with the vehicle are the V5C document and the correct badges for the model.
Saab 9000 Aero seats
Carlsson steering wheel
Kenwood head unit
The interior of this Carlsson shows off Saab’s notoriously superb build quality, and attention to detail. Although not original, the heated electric Aero seats are a welcome feature, especially for comfort on modern roads. Both front seats operate exactly as intended without known fault, and showcase a worn, yet comfortable condition. The rear seats, on the other hand, have seemingly hardly been used in the comparison, and show far fewer signs of use.
All interior trim items, headlining, door cards, and carpeting have clearly been rather well cared for over the years, reflecting far fewer signs of wear than you would perhaps expect with a higher mileage vehicle. The only known faults within the interior, are an intermittent sunroof, and an issue with the fuel gauge, as mentioned later in the “mechanics” section.
Otherwise, the cabin of this Saab is certainly a rather pleasant environment, living up to the 9000’s intentions of competing with executive saloons of the time. Although a few signs of wear can indeed be found on seats, and items like the steering wheel, it is very difficult to fault the interior, especially given the mileage.
Carlsson body kit & rear spoiler
This Saab 9000 wears its recently applied red paintwork beautifully, showing off the unique Carlsson body kit and rear spoiler. As the vehicle has covered rather few miles since its respray, buyers can expect minimal signs of use, with seemingly no noticeable major marks to note.
In addition to fresh paintwork, this sporty saloon also sports a recently refurbished set of the ever-so-desirable diamond cut, two-tone Carlsson 3-spoke wheels. The wheels look superb of course and are wrapped in a welcome set of Toyo Proxes with plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy.
Although the exterior has been somewhat “de-badged”, all remaining trim pieces, lights, and body kit components are also in excellent condition. As shown in the included images, the original badging is indeed included with the vehicle, should the new keeper wish to re-install them.
Overall, it is definitely tough to find fault with this gorgeous Saab, for it is a vehicle that will no doubt fill the lucky new owner with pride upon each glance.
Buyers will be pleased to know that the vehicle fires up right away, and performs brilliantly. Despite the mileage shown, the car happily pulls throughout the rev range, delivering bucket loads of torque and characterful turbo noises as you power along.
The current owner has highlighted that both the fuel gauge and electronic sunroof aren’t working as fully intended, but the trip computer still shows the remaining estimated mileage, so you’re never left guessing. Otherwise, the car performs perfectly with no other known faults and has been well cared for over the years.
This Saab presents buyers with an incredibly rare opportunity to own a superb example of the elusive and desirable 9000 Carlsson. The vehicle drives brilliantly, looks spectacular, and provides a very comfortable, yet rewarding experience. This is undoubtedly one of the finer examples of the Saab 9000 Carlsson available today.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.
£0 to £10,000
£10,000 to £50,000
£50,000 to £100,000
Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours. You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
