The Appeal
The Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 is already a fine driver's car, combining one of the most charismatic engines of its era with a chassis that earned widespread praise upon launch. This particular example, however, goes considerably further. Modified by Franz Engstler - the German engineer and touring car racer renowned for his work on Alfa Romeos - it carries an Engstler ER2 plate (no. 215) in the centre console and is fitted with a Vortech supercharger, uprated front brakes, a strut brace, and slightly lowered suspension. The result is a car that the vendor believes to be unique in the UK, producing approximately 285 bhp and 330 Nm of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox.
Imported from Italy and now on UK plates, this left-hand drive 156 has been in the current owner's hands since 2018. Prior to that, it had been stored in a warehouse alongside other classics from around 2007. Since acquiring it, the vendor has invested in comprehensive recommissioning and ongoing maintenance, with key work detailed below. A copy of Auto Italia magazine from 1998 accompanies the car, featuring the same-specification car no. 211, making for interesting reading alongside this no. 215.image.png1.18 MB
