The Appeal
The TD5-powered Defender 110 County is widely regarded as one of the most desirable variants of Land Rover's legendary workhorse. The 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel represented a meaningful step forward in refinement and efficiency over its predecessors, while retaining the rugged, go-anywhere capability that defines the Defender. The County specification adds a welcome degree of comfort, making these vehicles as usable on the road as they are capable off it.
This 1999 example in Caledonian Blue has recently undergone an extensive three-month renovation covering both mechanical and cosmetic areas. The work list is substantial and is detailed in full below, but highlights include a new front driveshaft, new rear half shafts, fresh differential oil, three doors rebuilt using genuine Land Rover structural rails, a new rear door, and a new front windscreen. The chassis has been power-washed and treated with Lanoguard anti-corrosion protection. The vendor reports that the engine starts on the first turn, uses no oil or coolant, and returns a checked 32 MPG, attributed to a top-end engine rebuild reportedly carried out at 180,000 miles under a previous owner. It comes with a long MOT and is presented with factory side steps, a snorkel, and a rear spare wheel outrigger setup.image.png1.68 MB
