An opportunity to buy and complete a partially restored 1951 Land Rover Series 1 80".
This vehicle has only ever had 2 registered keepers
Beautifully restored similar examples are currently achieving upwards of 50, 000 GBP
We acquired NYA 495 from a retired Land Rover restorer who, over the course of the past few years has dismantled it, stripped the chassis, repaired it, fitted a rear cross member sourced from Chris Pickles, powder coated it in Deep Bronze Green, rebuilt the axles with reconditioned differentials and new chrome swivel balls to bring it to a rolling chassis. The gearbox has also been reconditioned. He carefully stripped the vehicle down to separate pieces, collected together new, reconditioned and used parts, including many almost impossible to find items critical to the success of a highly detailed restoration.
We have rather too many restoration projects here ourselves at present, so offer it for sale for completion by a discerning new owner to the very high standard it deserves. Below we list a brief resume of the parts and their condition. We have detailed photographs of most of these items available upon request.
NEW and RECONDITIONED PARTS
New Keith Wadsworth panels - door bottoms, top skins, front wings, tailgate, front bumper
New Front Seat Set of 6 correct for year (Sam's Trim)- correct square back type for the age of the vehicle
New Autosparks complete wiring loom (ordered with provision for indicators should you so require)
New Front bulkhead mounted side lights
New Metal headlight bowls
Re-chromed headlight surrounds
Brake master cylinder reconditioned with stainless steel inner parts
New seals for doors and tailgate
New Brake pipe flexis and rigid brake pipe set
New old stock shock absorbers
New track rod ends
New exhaust and rear hanger (Bearmach)
New pedal to floor rubbers
New steering wheel (still boxed)
New old stock trafficators complete with period correct switch (very rare)
BODY

Very straight used rear body tub – some minor TIG repairs required around spare wheel mounting bracket

New seat box to bulkhead strengthening panels
Bonnet used good
Good used aluminium radiator panel and mesh grille
Windscreen frame used good – new glass required
Bulkhead – repaired – good
Used door tops – require new Perspex and runners
New seals for doors and tailgate are present
All floors and transmission cover are present and generally very good – spare rear tub floor and door tops
99% of body cappings, hinges, brackets, clamps etc are present and in good order, removed and ready for re-galvanising
Number plates are present with correct dealer 'chalk-on' backing plates
ELECTRICAL
New Autosparks wiring loom
New bulkhead mounted side lights
Good used rear ‘D’ lights
New metal headlamp backing bowls with re-chromed headlight surrounds
Good instrument panel – 2 small holes need to be TIG filled
Good gauges all present and correct – ignition switch requires new surround decal
1 new brake light switch – 1 used (same as choke switch)
New old stock correct trafficators with switch – very rare
ENGINE, FUEL and AIR
2. 0 litre later engine with correct round sump – good - bores have been honed
Good used pistons – new rings required
Good crankshaft – new bearings required
All ancilliaries present require reconditioning (carburettor, starter motor, dynamo)
Exhaust manifold present – studs need attention
Original spark plug covers
Original and very rare air intake elbow assembly, air box and intake vortex
Original fuel pump and glass bowl with bracket, original fuel lines
Original pressed fuel tank present with a few pin prick holes in the side requiring repair, good used cradle.
BRAKES
Reconditioned brake master cylinder
New slave cylinders are required
Full set of new flexible and rigid brake hoses are present
Correct spring retaining plate present
Brass junctions are present with metal brackets
SUSPENSION and STEERING
Original leaf springs are present – ideally should be stripped and oiled
New old stock shock absorbers
All steering linkages are present
Original (aluminium) Steering box has had new top bearing, seems good. Has correct brass switch
Handbrake lever present
Brand new boxed steering wheel
Good used centre cover with switch (slight cosmetic repair needed) and stator tube, new spring.
AXLES and PROPSHAFTS
Re-painted, rebuilt, differentials reconditioned, new front chrome swivel balls
5 wheels (2 are date stamped 1951) require blast and repaint
Original props with good splines
GEARBOX and CLUTCH
Gearbox (circa 1953) reconditioned

SUMMARY
Much work has been carried out and a great amount of time and effort has been spent to ensure that the project can be completed to an extremely high standard by the new owner/ restorer. Many ultra-rare items are with the vehicle, as is the current style V5 registration document which shows it has only ever had two registered keepers. It retains it's original registration number which is transferable.
This represents an opportunity to own what has the potential to become one of the best 1951 80 inch Land Rovers in existence, with relatively little work.
