M-Sport Land Rover Freelander V6 Rally Car on Throttle Bodies
This is a rare opportunity to own one of 6 rally Freelanders built by M-Sport as Recce vehicles for the World Rally Championship Safari Rally. These Freelanders have been well documented and publicised in both Land Rover and Rallying communities.
This particular Freelander was one of two used by Carlos Sainz for the rally.
The M-Sport Freelanders have a long and interesting history. First being used by Land Rover as press cars, following this they we're then used as prototype vehicles for the mid-life facelift. During this time Ford took control of Land Rover and decided to use 6 V6 freelanders as Reece cars for the Safari Rally for Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz and Markko Martin. After this, they were then used as course opening and closing vehicles during the 2004 British Rally Championship to showcase the new Freelander Facelift.
In 2006, I then bought the 6 Freelanders and saved them from being crushed. I sold 5 of the Freelanders to various friends who rallied and kept 1 for myself. We had many years of fun racing the Freelanders together, drawing a lot of attention at various rallies and often beating ex WRC cars. Since then only 2 Freelanders remain to the original 6 owners due to people buying different vehicles and loosing interest.
The M-sport Freelander were built to the highest spec for the time, and and still have an impressive spec sheet even for a modern car. M-Sport built the Freelanders to the following specificiation:
- Fully Welded Roll Cage built to FIA regulations
- Seam Welded Body Shell
- Fully adjustable WRC specification Reiger Suspension
- Full Length Aluminium Sump Guard and Rear Differential Guard
- Kevlar Sill Protectors
- Mirrored Window Tint to help keep the vehicle cool
- High Capacity Windscreen Washer Bottle
- Re-location of battery to rear foot well for better weight distribution
- Lightweight Magnesium OZ Wheels
-Up-rated mounting points for Engine and Gearbox
- 120L Carbon Covered fuel tank
- Flocked dashboard
- C-Rally Navigation Computer
Since we have owned the Freelander we have added the following:
- Custom Throttle Bodies, re-maped to 230HP
5 speed manual gearbox with heavy duty clutch and custom mounting plate
- Rose Jointed suspension arms
- Custom Exhaust System (SOUNDS AMAZING!)
- Omex 710 ECU
- Lightweight Fiberglass Bonnet
- High Pressure adjustable Fuel Pump
-Rear Disc Brake Conversion
The Freelander comes with a comprehensive spares package including the following:
- Spare Wheels and Tyres including gravel and tarmac tyres
- Spare body panels including doors, bumper
- Various Spare Engine and Drive Train Parts
The Freelander has been well looked after, it has just had a fully rebuilt MG ZS V6 engine installed along with the throttle bodies. This engine is slightly better than the original Freelander V6, being slightly more powerful as standard. The modifications have made this one of the fastest Freelanders ever built and has proved it's worth when it has often beaten WRC Impreza's, Evo's and Focuses! The gearbox has also been overhauled 100 miles ago.
Before sale the Freelander will be fully serviced. The Freelander also has been MOT'd until October 2018.
New Stickers to how Land Rover had the graphics on the remote control Freelander as sold by dealers. A boxed remote controlled Freelanders is included in the sale.
Unfortunately the seats, belt and extinguishers are now out of date, with the seats being used in a track car. However the original Carlos Sianz Sparco Carbon Fibre seat is included.
As this has been rallied, the Freelander does have a few bumps and scraps and a bit of gravel rash. However is still a relatively clean car.
This is a brilliant rally car and would be an excellent and enjoyable Rally Car, Toy or even to be added to a car collection.

I'm in no rush to sell the Freelander as it owes me a small fortune, but I am open to offers. I would love to see it go to someone who can care for the Freelander like we have, even getting it back to it's former glory!
Payment through Bank Transfer or Cash on Collection. Car won't be released until payment has cleared.
Van and trailer would be recommended for collection, however delivery can be arranged if needed.
