Description

It is wonderful to look into the history of a car that has a story to tell even before she got registered on 19th February 1968. And that story is recorded on a copy of the original build sheet where the original consignee is noted as AML Inc. – she was originally sent to the US and was allocated the chassis number DB6/ 2779/ L! According to AML records, 2779 was one of thirty DB6 Saloons that were subsequently returned to the U. K. between May and August 1967. Thirteen were re-engineered by Aston Martin as a right-hand drive and the chassis number suffix change to an R to reflect the revised steering arrangement. 2779 was then sold to its first UK owner, a Mrs Marsh of Sheffield. The car was specified as automatic and, because of its original destination in the US, had been specified with Normalair air conditioning – rare indeed!
Paint and body upgraded by Works Service and the engine boosted to 4. 2 litre and a 5 speed box added all by Oselli, this car is excellent
Added to the major enhancements that have polished this gem of a car, is a service history that would be a credit to any owner – any gaps that show in the MOT history have a balancing SORN notice, every job that needed attention was attended to and if further proof were needed of that attention to detail, it came just prior to the car’s delivery to us.
It had been noted during discussions, that the under-bonnet pad was a little worn and detracted from an otherwise good-looking engine bay. When the car arrived, there was a resplendently new pad fitted and a copy invoice for the same from Aston Service Dorset.
Readers of Classic & Sportscar magazine may think that they have seen this car before – and they would be right. Their November 2009 issue carried a report entitled “GT Showdown – Aston vs Ferrari vs Maserati” and on the front page JTD 999 F is the star car. And so, it turned out in the test – she beat off the attention of a Ferrari 330GT and a Maserati Sebring to bring the victors laurels back to Newport Pagnell.
