For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® 101 Forward Control Ragtop in Drab Olive. (1975).
3500cc V8. RHD. 12V. MOT & Tax Exempt. Released from Forces in 1999 (reasonably late for a 101). New Canvas.
We are delighted to present for sale this right hand drive Forward Control, which is both Tax and MOT exempt. It is very rare to see these vehicles still in their original, soft top, general service format with their V8 engine - many have been converted to non-standard engine formats (and hence are much less valuable now). This 101 was purchased from a local shooting estate, who have now moved to using a different platform of already established Bedford vehicles, as the estate has recently been taken over.
On the outside this truck sports many of the features one would hope to see on a 101 – the vintage number plates, bridging plate, new canvas, front hubs with foot plate for access to the cabin and rear bump stops. The estate we purchased from added a pair of rear steps, along with a "cage" which is accessed via a deadbolt, in order to help load passengers and dogs as quickly as possible. As a point to note, should the new keeper want us to remove the cage and reinstate the original tailgate arrangement - we can do this as the vehicle came with the original tailgate when purchased by us.
The interior is largely standard - with the front two seats and heater still fitted, along with the front de-mist. Mats are fitted to the floor area, and the spare is retained in its usual place . What is great about the rear of this forward control is the seating - benches run the length of the rear cabin, making this an ideal vehicle for those with a large family, estates, shooting parties, wedding companies, etc etc etc. We estimate 12 people can fit back here comfortably (more if you don't mind a squeeze, or if you particularly like the others in the rear!), along with the two in the front.
Out on the road this vehicle sounds and runs well - it has been in almost daily use until recent times, and was driven in a convoy with some other vehicles purchased from the estate - a distance of over 40 miles which included single, dual carriageway and motorway driving. The V8 is intoxicating and gives an unexpectedly brisk turn of speed.
In summary, if you are looking for a right hand drive, 12v 101 FC in its original general service guise with V8 engine and room for all the family, this is well worth considering. These vehicles are becoming rarer and rarer in non-converted, unmolested condition and have become an astute asset to have - being super practical for just about any task whilst also holding value, too - and with the attraction of low-fuss ownership in relation to Tax, MOT & Classic Insurance, it should prove to be a solid option for the future.
