Ford Escort XR3 5 Speed carb model. RHD import from South Africa with all tax and duty paid. NOVA declaration done. UK registration has been applied for. Car will be tax and MOT exempt. Very solid old car which doesnt appear to have been welded.
Body - 1981 MK3 Escort XR3 shell with two bolt strut tops and shorter rear roof gutters. Original inner wings, floors, crossmember, boot floor. battery tray Very solid old car. Paintwork is perfectly presentable and looks very original. If you wanted a show car it would need redone. Being an African built car it has the spats front and rear on the arch lips. Few minor scratches and scuffs but nothing major. Bit of rust bubbling on bottom of passengers door. Underneath is really solid and original. Few dents from jacking up but really good.
Interior - Red strobe style seats i. Back seats are good. Front seats are useable but a bit scruffy. Good door cards but door bins are missing. . Good headlining. Dashboard is cracked due to sun damage. original steering wheel. Early style Rev counter with 10, 20, 30 on display rather than 1, 2 , 3
Mechanics - Good quiet 1600 CVH and 5 speed box. Starts runs and drives and was still in use prior to export. As with any old car will need a checkover before use. Exhaust sounds a bit louder than normal. Gear linkage could do with adjustment. No idea on the history so as a precaution I would advise changing the timing belt and water pump.
Wheels - African spec 13" XR3 cloverleaf alloys with good tyres.
