Description
Opportunity to acquire one of the rarest Ford model variants in the world? One of only believed to be 4 Basil Green Mk11 ‘Perana’ Granada 5. 0L Ghia Automatic cars that made it into private hands from a total of c. 17 examples produced for the local South African Police as Interceptor cars, and executives at Lexington Cigarettes (as this example).
BG was very well known for his officially licensed engine conversions to new Ford models, with 302 Ford V8 engines replacing the V6 for discerning customers that wanted a more powerful and exclusive vehicle. He is perhaps best known for his V8 Perana Capri models that enjoyed great success in motorsport. Sadly no longer with us, his cars are increasingly recognised and sought after worldwide.
Fitted higher compression 302HO cylinder heads (from genuine AC Cobra), recent uprated camshaft/ torque converter/ automatic gearbox rebuilt/ re-cored radiator. Original heads with car – block/ heads dated 1970’s. Much other fettling done.
All correct Ford and Basil Green Motors ‘Perana’ tags are present. Copy of original South African log book on file, which matches the above/ evidence of my personal shipping and entry into the UK from South Africa in 2019. UK Historic reg./ tax and MOT exempt.
A joy to drive, eager to rev if desired, and pretty quick too, or just float along in a relaxed manner. The whole car has an aura of originality and patina. ‘Very useable’ and solid as a rock underneath having come from a dry climate, although could be taken to the top level cosmetically.
(I loved The Professionals as a teenager - the photograph is not the advertised car there but, it does invoke a great deal of nostalgia).
Simply reducing my collection. As always, rarity has its price, in line with other rare Ford variants.
