Description
Maximum style and impact is what Standard-Triumph was looking for with the Roadster. It was to be a statement and it delivered perfectly. The limelight - Registration: UK registered - Chassis number: TRA1250 - Engine number: 400631 - 2, 088cc, 4 cylinder engine, 68bhp, 3 speed manual Design: Standard's wartime purchase of Triumph, whose pre-war cars had been much admired for their performance and quality, was seen as the first step towards establishing a top-of-the-range range to complement the Standards of everyday life. The design work begun in 1944 envisaged a car built in two body styles - saloon and sports roadster - using a common engine and gearbox, and similar running gear. Dickey seat: The chassis, an entirely new design with independent front suspension, consists of two large-diameter steel tubes joined by crossmembers. Designed by Frank Callaby of Standard, the Roadster's elegant bodywork had the unique feature of retaining the Dickey seat, which was a feature of pre-war Triumph. Comfortable: This right-hand drive example of Triumph's first post-war sports car is one of 2, 000 produced between 1948 and 1949, with the larger 2-litre engine. This is a beautifully restored vintage car, finished in green with a dark green soft top and red leather interior. The long front bench seat is surprisingly comfortable. Some specs: Big headlights, Lucas fog lights, two chrome horns, a chrome grille and a marker light and mirror mounted on top of each front fender. The interior, which features a luxurious amount of wood, is in good condition (largely original).
