In its simplest terms, the Bolide is Bugatti’s mind-blowing celebration of its mammoth quad-turbocharged 8. 0-litre W16 engine that debuted in the Veyron. In 2005 that now-legendary, top speed record-breaking road car stopped the press with its headline-generating output of nigh on 1, 000 horsepower. Staggeringly, now, in this track-only hypercar, modifications to the turbos and lubrication system mean it is rated for a colossal 1, 600 horsepower. With that might transmitted via a permanent four-wheel-drive system, the Bolide launches from 0 to 100 km/ h in only 2. 2 seconds and is rated for a top speed of 380 km/ h. Holding a dry weight of 1, 450 kilograms, the Bolide also boasts a weight-to-power ratio of 0. 91 kg/ hp.
But the Bolide is so much more than a mere straight-line monster. Bugatti enveloped the W16 in a bespoke carbon fibre monocoque. A new push-rod suspension setup and an extreme aerodynamic package further contribute to generating some 2. 5 G of cornering forces and 2, 900 kilograms of downforce, allowing Bugatti to claim that the Bolide offers the performance and handling dynamics of a thoroughbred, top-tier LMP1 sports racing car.
Offered here is one of the rarefied 40 examples produced. From the final specification of this car, which was decided in August 2023, the bodywork is primarily presented in show-stopping tinted Turquoise Carbon. This is complemented by the Black Carbon finish for the lower surfaces and rocker aero panel. As part of the extensive personalisation, the exterior features French flag motifs on the turning vanes behind the front wheels while Blanc was selected for the central air intake surround, “W16. 4” and “Bugatti” script on the fin stabiliser and underside of the rear wing, plus the Bugatti logo on the rear wing endplates. In addition, the tow hook was configured in Italian Red while the fuel cap and exhaust deflector are Black. Further highlights include the Nocturne-painted wheels featuring Black centre caps plus the Black Carbon cover shrouding the mighty W16 powerplant.
Meanwhile, the prototype-inspired interior is trimmed in Beluga Black Alcantara with matching stitching. The headrests for the racing bucket seats are then embroidered with the Bolide logo in Gris Rafale thread. Moreover, in a nod to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a track plate depicting the layout of the Circuit de la Sarthe sits at the front of the roof panel.
Offered as an “as-new” example, the Bugatti displayed a remarkable 112 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing. It is supplied with two Bugatti flight cases, which include a technical manual, car cover, tool bag with gloves, battery conditioner, and a spare set of wheels.
The breath-taking Bolide sits at the apogee of automotive performance, courtesy of its recipe of one of the all-time great road car engines embedded in an FIA World Endurance Championship-grade carbon fibre monocoque chassis.
