The arrival of the 1970 model year marked a significant evolution in the development of the legendary Porsche 911. Benefiting from a longer wheelbase introduced the previous year, the new-generation 911 delivered markedly improved balance and handling characteristics while retaining the raw responsiveness that had already established the model among the finest sports cars of its era. (Porsche Classic)
At the top of the range sat the highly desirable 911 S, the purest and most performance-focused road-going Porsche available at the time. Powered by an upgraded 2. 2-liter flat-six engine producing an impressive 180 horsepower, the 911 S featured larger valves, improved breathing, and a more robust 225 mm clutch, resulting in performance figures that were exceptional for the period. Capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just over seven seconds and reaching a top speed of approximately 144 mph, few contemporary sports cars could rival its combination of speed, agility, and everyday usability. Beyond its performance credentials, the 1970 911 S also benefited from numerous technical and aesthetic refinements. Ventilated disc brakes provided outstanding stopping power, while upgraded interior fittings, improved instrumentation, safer door handles, and factory-applied undercoating further enhanced the quality and sophistication of the car. Today, early long-hood 911 S models are widely regarded among the most collectible and rewarding classic Porsches ever produced
Porsche 911 for sale offered here
The exceptional example offered here is undoubtedly among the finest surviving 1970 Porsche 911 S Coupés available today. Chassis number 1643 of only 1, 744 examples produced for the 1970 model year, this car was discovered complete and remarkably undamaged after spending approximately two decades stored in a private garage in Northern Italy.
Following its acquisition, the Porsche underwent a comprehensive two-year restoration carried out by a renowned marque specialist. The car was stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt to exacting factory specifications with extraordinary attention to originality and detail throughout. The body was refinished in its original and highly iconic 018 Tangerine, one of the most desirable period Porsche colors, while the suspension and numerous mechanical components were carefully restored and powder-coated to concours-level presentation standards.
Unlike many restored examples, the interior of this 911 S retained an exceptional level of originality and preservation. Great care was therefore taken to conserve its authentic factory appearance, preserving the unmistakable character and craftsmanship of an early long-hood Porsche. The original tinted glass was correctly reinstalled, while the aluminum trim and brightwork were meticulously refinished.
Mechanically, the car retains its original matching-numbers Type 911/ 02 2, 195 cc flat-six engine together with its correct Type 911/ 01 transaxle, both of which were comprehensively overhauled during the restoration process. The engine compartment was restored to its correct factory appearance, while suspension components including shock absorbers, ball joints, tie-rod ends, and bushings were replaced where necessary using proper specification components. Completing the car are its beautifully restored 6×15-inch Fuchs forged alloy wheels, correctly refinished to original specifications.
