1927 AUSTIN 7 Rtype TOP HAT SALOON
This rare and sought after Top-hat model is finished in dark blue with black mudguards, roof and dark blue trim. It has covered a believed 41000 miles in its lifetime (approx1130 miles since resto), 6 previous keepers, last two keepers from Isle of Wight. Registered in Dec1927, 90 years old this year and cost a staggering £150 when new. It is in excellent condition throughout having had a full ground up restoration and the valuable original registration number VB1350 is transferable. 7 Rtypes were essentially a saloon version of the Chummy and the first Austin 7 saloon built entirely by Austin. Designed to carry 4 adults with luggage, max speed 50mph and fuel consumption 45mpg. Named the Top Hat because men at that time could comfortably sit in such a car wearing their top hats – this is borne out by an article that tells us that J. P. Morgan ordered his limousine in the early 1900s with an especially high roof so he could ride around without taking his hat off. This car latterly belonged to an avid car collector and has been in his collection for many years. Fitted with brass tail lights, door handles, door hinges, under bonnet fittings, outside klaxon, under bonnet klaxon, king of the road scuttle lights, opening windscreen, doorsteps, sliding front and rear windows, s/ steel map light, ashtray, flower holders, outside mirror, outside Pratts petrol tank, starting handle, original AA brass badge, Owners club London badge, winged outside temp gauge, colour coded Austin 7 picnic hamper, original hand -painted number plates. It is sold with a VSCC eligibility doc stating engine crank case, gearbox casing, axle casing, front axle and chassis are all original and standard. It states the car registration, chassis and engine numbers, cc, and body type are all correct. The bore is stated 56mm, stroke 76mm, top gear ratio 4. 89, 3 forward gears, one reverse and is equipped with a coil conversion as well as the original magneto. The history folder includes the current and previous V5s including a copy of the original buff coloured book, previous MoTs, engine info, 19 inch wire wheels with brass fittings, IOW Austin car club info, various invoices, diary of work carried out, maps of various shows, write up on Austin 7, correspondence, Austin 7 profile publications booklet and magazines.
