Description
1931 Riley Nine Monaco Rally Special A very special car, having been prepared with 5 other cars to 'Rally Monte Carlo' specification by Leverett Kearton Garages who were Riley's distributors. Leverett Kearton took part in the Monte Carlo Rally himself and had a special batch of 11 other cars prepared for discerning customers who wanted a car capable of meeting the same challenge. These modifications included an upgraded Special Series engine with twin carburettor conversion, special springs, an 11 gallon fuel tank and much more. This car is accompanied by the original 1931 Leverett Kearton receipt specifying all the extras. During its lifetime, the car had only six owners. From 1975 to 2023, one of the owners being Gerry Dick, the former Chairman of the Riley Register. During this time, Gerry won several trophies with the car and made memorable trips across Europe with his family and friends. Highlights: - Registered: France - Chassis number: 6013505 - Original British number plate: GO8531 - 1087cc, 4-cylinder engine, 4-speed manual gearbox The exterior: The Riley Nine Monaco, with its Weymann bodywork, exudes timeless elegance thanks to its classic brown colour. The graceful combination of burgundy bodywork and black wings enhances the car's overall sophistication. Constructed from ash wood and reinforced with metal panels, the bodywork is not only durable, but also eliminates any potential creaking. The Riley Nine Monaco's bodywork is covered in close-fitting, well-maintained fabrics and remains in superb condition, showing excellent preservation since its restoration in the early 1980s. The paintwork has just the right amount of patina, sought after by enthusiasts for its unique charm and character. The convertible experience: One of the most enjoyable features of this car is the refreshing feel of the air behind the wheel of the saloon. The sliding roof, open front window and the ability to open the door windows give the impression of a convertible with air conditioning. The interior: The car's interior is truly exquisite, starting with the soft, comfortable brown leather seats that set the tone. The doors are covered in leather with wood accents. These elements, combined with the grey lining, add to the exceptional ambience of the interior. The wooden dashboard, with its original Smith instruments, is elegant in its simplicity. The spacious luggage compartment is a great feature, making it easy to take everything you need on your journey without sacrificing comfort. Mechanical: The current owner of the Riley Nine Monaco took the initiative to have the engine and gearbox completely rebuilt by a specialist. In the process, a number of improvements were made, including the installation of high-compression pistons and stiffer valve springs. To improve engine performance and reliability, twin SU carburettors are fitted as standard on the Monte Carlo, ensuring optimum engine intake. In addition, the dynamo has been completely rebuilt, ensuring that the lights are sufficiently powered, even when driving at night. A special system has been incorporated into the car to enable the use of indicators, warning lights and brake lights. This system, cleverly integrated into the side lights, ensures compliance with UK and European road regulations, including TUV standards. Aunty Mon The nickname 'Aunty Mon' has been affectionately given to the Riley Nine Monaco for two sentimental reasons. Firstly, 'Mon' is a contraction of Monaco and Monte Carlo, reflecting the model's name and the car's special preparation. Secondly, the car occupies a treasured place in Gerry Dick's family, having been passed down through the decades. She was regarded as a beloved member of the family, earning her the endearing title of 'Aunty' to emphasise her close connection with the family. Documentation: As previously stated, the car comes with all the necessary documentation, including UK V5 registration, original logbook and French registration, allowing the car to be brought back to the UK if desired (with original number plate GO8531). It can also be kept on the continent. The original manual, wiring diagram and lubrication diagram are also included with the car, providing the owner with all the information...
