Description

Description and highlights of this original French model Very good overall condition Renovation of numerous components Substantial invoice file Our Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1600 was delivered new in France at the beginning of 1965. It has had two owners since the 2000s, including its current owner since 2017. This example is in remarkable overall condition, thanks in particular to the refurbishment of cosmetic and mechanical components. In a new Bianco colour, this Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider has a refurbished black soft top, a large number of recently changed chromes and new black leather upholstery.

On the mechanical side, our example benefited from a change of engine during its refurbishment. It has the 92bhp 1. 6-litre 4-cylinder engine found in the Giulia TI, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Its operation and performance are intact. It is serviced at the Atelier des pierres dorées. An overhaul is carried out at 58, 357 km, with the engine, gearbox, axle and brakes all overhauled. A new battery and an overhaul of the electrical systems and cooling radiator are also part of the package.

Our Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1600 comes with the following equipment: Exterior colour Bianco Black soft top Black leather upholstery Floor carpet Blaupunkt radio Alfa Romeo floor mats Bakelite steering wheel Model History In the years following the end of the Second World War, most European countries were in financial difficulty. Brands had to adapt their products to the new trend. Alfa Romeo decided to produce cars on a large scale with more reasonable engines, at lower prices for customers. The Alfa Romeo 1900 made its appearance at the 1950 Paris Motor Show. Produced in Berlina and Sprint versions, it was described by the brand as "The family car that wins races". Powered by a 90 bhp 4-cylinder double camshaft, its engine evolved with the TI (100 bhp), Super and TI Super (115 bhp) versions, still equipped with a 4-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed manual gearbox for the Super Sprint versions.

In 1954, a new model called the Giulietta was presented at the Turin Motor Show. The first models produced were Sprint coupes, followed a year later by Sedan saloons. The first post-war Alfa Romeo convertible appeared in mid-1955 with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, built in collaboration with Pininfarina. It was powered by a 4-cylinder 1. 3 litre engine developing 65 bhp, which was upgraded to 90 bhp for the "Veloce" version. The models from 1954 to 1959 were part of the 750 series, which was later discontinued in favour of the 101 series, leading to a number of changes to the models. The styling of the Giulietta remained unchanged. The Spider versions, on the other hand, had a slightly longer wheelbase, larger and stronger camshafts and crankshaft than before to cope with future increases in engine capacity, and a redesigned gearbox. A real success, the Giulietta was replaced in 1962 by the Giulia, as Alfa Romeo realised that a more powerful model was needed to remain competitive on the market. The Alfa Romeo Giulia was an improved and rebadged model taken directly from its predecessor, the Giulietta. The 1. 3-litre 4-cylinder engine has been upgraded to a 1. 6-litre capacity, delivering between 90 and 100 bhp. The cosmetic changes between the two models are minor, but more visible on the Spider version of the Giulia. The larger 1600 cm3 engine means that Pininfarina has had to bulge the bonnet of the Giulia. Still very light at only around 900 kilos, the Giulia Spider offered good performance with 92 bhp, and 112 bhp in its Veloce version. It was one of the most powerful sports cars of its time.
