Exceptional file
This car is one of the rare ALVIS TF21s still on the road among the 18 built.
A rare model that sits in the TE21’s lineage by introducing a measure of modernity.
Presented in 1966 at the Geneva Motor Show, it was produced for only one year.
Alvis aimed to offer its upscale clientele a model usable on a daily basis, combining performance, safety and comfort. All in a chic ambiance that the English so well know how to create.
Under the bonnet, it is equipped with a powerful 3. 0-litre six-cylinder engine delivering 150 bhp, fed by three SU carburetters.
It features a five-speed ZF gearbox, assisted disc brakes, a ball-race steering system and independent front suspension with coil springs.
A coupé version and a cabriolet version were produced.
The second version came in only 18 units, including this one.
A car with exceptional history: we have the list of all its owners, all repair invoices since 1966, all original books and adverts, and the full detail of its restoration. It was delivered new in 1967 to the Director of Industrial Rentals Ltd in London. Seven English owners successively followed! The car left Great Britain only from 2002 to be shown notably at the Angoulême Circuit. It truly began its life in France in 2015, after a brief spell in Switzerland. It is today owned by a gentleman driver on the Côte d’Azur.
This two-door, four-seater cabriolet is the work of Swiss coachbuilder Graber (coachbuilder number 9614). The design before us is easy to mistake for a Facel Vega at first glance!
The bodywork was completely dismantled, sandblasted, and repainted in the 1990s. The chassis was restored in the 2000s.
The alignments are perfect, the paint is brilliant.
The chrome is original and in excellent condition.
The upholstery was redone in the 1980s. To this day it shows standard wear for its nearly 50 years!
The carpets are in good condition.
The hood is nearly new and was replaced in 2011.
The instrumentation is functional. The electrical system was overhauled in the early 1990s.
Mechanically, many components have been restored, improved or modernised.
- bore re-sleeved
- re-manufacture of original pistons and new liners
- installation of more modern bearings
- custom-made camshaft able to work with a higher compression ratio
- sleeve installation with original 83 mm bore
- installation of modern steel valves, lead-free valve seats, bronze valve guides
- inspection of valve-train angles
- replacement of all studs with V155 steel
The entire suspension was overhauled with replacement of all brass bushings by bearings, removal and sandblasting of leaf springs and replacement of shock absorbers.
The original ZF gearbox was opened and restored. The clutch was replaced.
Finally the power steering system is original, fully restored.
Currently the car is maintained in a specialist workshop for English classic cars.
Such a model is rare on the market, even virtually non-existent! With only 18 examples this is a micro-production… which is the last ALVIS model produced.
Moreover with an extraordinary historical dossier.
A must-see.
