Description

For Sale: Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4. 2L engine from 1965. Model history: When it appeared, the Jaguar E-Type immediately established itself as a reference, relegating its rivals to another era, both technically and aesthetically. Unveiled in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, it caused a genuine shock in the automotive world. Jaguar revealed a production car with unprecedented performance, radical design and technology previously reserved for competition. The E-Type is distinguished by its independent four-wheel suspension, disc brakes, monocoque chassis, and a refined interior combining a wooden steering wheel, an aluminium dashboard and bucket seats. Its flowing lines are highlighted by enclosed headlights, while the legendary XK engine, fed by three SU carburettors, develops exceptional power and performance for its era. Rapidly, the E-Type became the emblem of the marriage between sportiness and British elegance. Adopted by many personalities and regularly staged in cinema, it stands as a cultural icon as well as an automobile, and remains today one of the most coveted Jaguars. From 1963, Jaguar entered the E-Type into competition with the famous Lightweight E-Type, notably at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, illustrating the difficulty of turning a road-going model capable of nearly 240 km/ h into a race car. Manufactured in 4, 249 left-hand drive units, the 4. 2L E-Type Coupe ranks among the most sought-after versions. It benefits from a fully synchronised Jaguar gearbox, a more torquey engine and improved comfort, making this variant a perfect compromise between performance, driving enjoyment and modern use. History of this Jaguar Type E Series 1: This Jaguar Type E Series 1 was delivered new in 1965 in the United States. After several decades of discreet use, it reappeared in 2010 in Virginia, carefully preserved by its owner. Enchanted by its authenticity and sound basis, we acquired it. The car benefited from several months of restoration in our workshops to present it in its current configuration: Silver Grey paint combined with a Cartier red leather interior. Its last owner took possession in 2014. He used it regularly, including as a daily driver, while entrusting us with its ongoing maintenance over the years. Gradually, the car was mechanically improved to optimise pleasure and reliability: – adoption of a longer final drive ratio, – complete overhaul of the braking system, – replacement of the head gasket with a reinforced version, – improvement of the cooling system. Finally, in 2026, the car was brought back into our workshops for a complete bare-body rebuild. Bodywork: The bodywork is in remarkable condition, perfectly sound, with precise and uniform tolerances. It was entirely stripped and repainted in 2026 in our workshops. The presentation is excellent, while retaining a light patina inside the engine compartment, in keeping with the spirit of the model. Upholstery: The interior was completely redone and redesigned in our workshops in 2012. The red hides, carefully selected, are still in a remarkable state today. At the time, we created a bespoke all-leather interior, combining modernity with respect for Jaguar aesthetics. A discreet Bluetooth-enabled audio system was installed to improve everyday use without altering the cabin. Engine: The engine runs perfectly, with excellent oil pressure, both cold and hot. In 2023, the top end was fully serviced, including the replacement of the head gasket. The cooling system was optimised by installing a new radiator, an electric fan and a new water box. The introduction of electronic ignition and a modernised starter significantly improves reliability and daily usability. Gearbox: The original fully synchronised gearbox is in excellent working order. The clutch was replaced in 2021. No play is to be reported and gears engage smoothly and precisely. Running gear: The front end, fully rebuilt, offers excellent road holding. The steering rack was replaced in 2023. The rear suspension is stable, the chassis behaviour perfectly balanced. There is no play or rattling noted. The suspension works perfectly. Brakes: The braking system is entirely new and equipped with high-performance brake shoes at the front and rear. The 4. 2L E-Type already benefits from notably improved braking assist compared with previous versions. The...
