Model history:
When it arrived, the Jaguar E-Type left its rivals 10 years behind—technically and stylistically!
Presented in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, it was a real thunderbolt, representing a new level of technology, design and performance—unmatched for any production Jaguar.
Independent wire-spoked wheels with disc brakes, a wooden steering wheel and an all-aluminium dashboard, bucket seats and faired-in headlights, the three chromed SU carburettors lined up—and the XK engine’s 265 bhp. That’s what this new Jaguar line, called the TYPE E, represents.
This Jaguar E-Type would become the benchmark for sporting elegance. The biggest names in automotive—and even the 7th art—would own it, and above all it would appear on screen in some of the greatest films. It remains highly coveted today.
In 1963, a competition version took to the track at the Circuit de la Sarthe: the Type E Lightweight. It’s hard to believe anyone would want to build a race car from a sport model that can already reach 240 km/ h.
Only 170 cars were delivered in France.
History of this Jaguar E-Type Series 1:
Delivered new in July 1965 in Saint-Cloud (92), this Jaguar E-Type originally wore an elegant Golden Sand paintwork paired with a beige leather interior. After several discreet decades, it resurfaced in 2018 in Lyon, carefully kept by its owner for the previous twenty years. Taken by its authenticity, we acquired it at that point.
Charles Collin took pleasure in driving it regularly around France up until July 2023, when an ambitious restoration project began—aimed at enhancing its charm while also improving day-to-day usability. In February 2024, this stunning Type E began a new chapter under new ownership.
Bodywork:
It has excellent, very solid bodywork with superb panel fit. Repainted in 2018, it still has a striking, high-gloss finish, and the engine-bonnet interior has only a light patina.
Interior upholstery:
The upholstery has been completely reupholstered and redesigned in our workshops in 2023. The Tan leather and alcantara—carefully selected—are still in remarkable condition today.
Back then, we had envisaged a bespoke interior combining modern touches with respect for the Jaguar spirit. We created a central console to integrate Apple CarPlay into this Jaguar E-Type.

Modernisation:
During the restoration of this Jaguar E-Type, we integrated a Pioneer multimedia system with Apple CarPlay, allowing also for the addition of a reversing camera, as well as an electric power steering system—an absolute advantage for manoeuvring.
For comfort, the car was fitted with perfectly integrated electric window mechanisms in the dashboard, along with a central locking system.
We also made several practical improvements, such as modernised LED interior lighting, an electric aerial and DAB+ reception, among others.
Engine:
The engine runs perfectly, with excellent oil pressure both cold and hot. A new cylinder-head gasket and a full top-end inspection were carried out in 2022.
The cooling system has also been optimised with the installation of a new radiator, new electric fan and a new water box. Electronic ignition and a modernised starter make day-to-day use more reliable and enjoyable.
Gearbox:
Original fully-synchronised gearbox in excellent working order. No play—gears engage perfectly.
Running gear:
Excellent front end with very good road-holding, fully overhauled; the rear end is stable. The chassis behaviour is spot on. No play or unwanted noises have been detected. The suspension is perfect.
Brakes:
The brakes are new and it’s fitted with high-performance brake linings at the front and rear. The 4. 2-litre Type E already benefits from much improved braking assistance compared with the previous model. Braking is spot on and strong in a straight line.
