The Appeal

You’ve heard the expression ‘find me another just like it’ when you read adverts for some rare and beautiful thing. But in this case, you really won’t find another anything like this very special Ducati. Hand-built from the humble beginnings of a 1981 Darmah Special, this machine has been improved, enhanced and made simply gorgeous from front to back.

Bought by the current owner and builder back in 2009 in pieces culminating in this true one-off motorcycle. So many components have been either sourced new or built from scratch while others like engine and gearbox have been rebuilt. The engine internals has all been replaced and now sports a lightened and balanced crank. The engine is fed by a pair of freshly re-jetted and polished 40mm Dellorto carbs. The heads have been lightly ported with indexed plugs and the gearbox has a brand new first gear and shaft.

Keyless ignition is just part of the completely new wiring loom. Brakes are brand new as are the hubs and wheels, chain and rear alloy sprocket. The suspension now consists of new springs and Ohlins shocks while the front forks have been fully resealed and the billet yoke has been set 2 degrees beyond the standard to replicate the quicker turning of the Ducati race bikes of the era. There are simply way too many finer details to mention but the photos will help anyone realise the amount of attention that has been afforded to create this stunning machine.

The History and Paperwork

 • Current V5 displaying matching frame and engine numbers
 • Invoices for outsourced work are available
 • Countless hours spent on the build

The Exterior

 • Hand-Crafted enlarged Fuel Tank
 • Tank finished in bright metal-flake blue
 • Strengthened frame powder-coated in grey
 • Brand new spoked wheels with new tyres, hubs and bearings
 • Bespoke seat
 • Headlamp from Ducati Monster

The larger hand-made fuel tank has been finished with a luxurious blue colour which has a fabulous metal flake that really matches the early eighties scheme. A Darmah of this period would have come with mag wheels, but this is not a Darmah anymore so those uninspiring wheels have gone in favour of sparkling new spoked wheels. The handlebars and yoke along with the fabulous new seat offer a very comfortable new riding position that will undoubtedly allow for many long and relaxed miles.

The Mechanics

 • Fully rebuilt 864cc engine
 • Lightened and Balanced Crankshaft
 • New bearings, pistons and rings
 • Serviced Gearbox with 1st gear replaced
 • Lightly ported heads and polished inlet manifold
 • New Brake Discs and Calipers front and rear
 • Ohlins Shock Absorbers
 • Multifunction Speedo

The engine is the heart of any Motorcycle so this one has been painstakingly rebuilt. Complete with a lightened and balanced crank, the motor has new pistons, bearings and an oil pump. There’s an improved oil filter system with no less than three magnetic points to ensure the engine remains clear of any debris build-up.

A NCR oil breather stack is also fitted. The pair of 40mm Dellorto carbs have been carefully jetted to the engine and are polished internally as are the inlet and cylinder heads. The keyless ignition system adds a nice bit of modernity as does the bright multi-function speedo and user-friendly switchgear.

For all intents and purposes, this is a brand new Motorcycle. There are far more new components than old and it is a far cry from the demure Ducati Darmah that it was born from. This machine has been put together with an undeniable passion and intention to build something that is impossible to repeat.

You will find countless bikes that may have been enhanced or improved but this is way beyond that. This is simply a ‘One-Off’ that has no equal. It was built initially as a keeper by the owner/builder with an apparent disregard for expense but an ankle injury prevents him from using it. Certainly a sad state of affairs for him but on the other hand it means the machine is now available to be owned by a very lucky person.

If you act quickly you may be able to share in something that has both the pedigree and the desire to be the best-built bike available in equal measure.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
