The Appeal
The B-body Chevrolet Impala SS proved that the old days of Chevy were alive and well. It might have been decades since the golden age of muscle cars, but this performance saloon was more than capable of stirring those behind the wheel. Combining a full-size four-door body with a muscular, sonorous V8, it offered a compelling blend of practicality and straight-line performance that earned it a devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic. Finding one in the UK is uncommon enough; finding one as comprehensively developed as this example is rarer still.
This 1997-registered Impala SS has been extensively upgraded by its current keeper, who has owned the car for approximately 23 years. At its heart sits a Golen 6.3-litre LT1 Stroker engine, built with forged internals including an Eagle 4340 crank and SRP forged pistons, and fed by a Powerdyne supercharger kit and a two-stage Zex nitrous system. The drivetrain has been strengthened to match, with a Roadmaster Dr. Evil 4L60-E transmission, B&M torque converter, aluminium drive shaft, and launch control. The suspension has been reworked with Hotchkiss trailing arms and heavy-duty sway bars, Energy Suspension bushings, and Summit coil springs, while SLP shorty headers and a Borla stainless cat-back exhaust handle the soundtrack.
Finished in Sea Green, the car sits on its original alloy wheels and comes with a pair of additional rims fitted with Mickey Thompson drag radials. The vendor reports that all modifications have been professionally installed and documented, and that the car has no history of accidents. Whether destined for weekend cruises, car shows, or the drag strip, this is a well-sorted and thoroughly specified machine.1996-Chevrolet-Impala-SS_003.jpg224.56 KB

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
