Starting life as a student project at Coventry University, the Ariel Atom aimed to be the ultimate driver’s car. An ambitious project to be sure, but with input from the likes of Lotus and TWR, it was clear that Ariel’s fresh-faced engineers were serious in their endeavour.
Launched in 2000, the Atom left reviewers gobsmacked from the outset and over the past 24 years, progressively faster variants have been released. The latest is the Ariel Atom 4 - unveiled at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed and featuring the new Honda Type R turbocharged engine with 321 horsepower. Customers took delivery from June of the following year and in 2020, Autocar proclaimed the Atom 4 as “Britain’s Best Driver’s Car”.
So smitten are customers with their long-awaited Atom 4s, that seldom do they come to market. We’re delighted to present this 2020 one-owner Atom 4 which has a mere 276 miles on the odometer. Recently serviced and complete with its first MOT certificate, this Atom is ready to be enjoyed by a new custodian. It’s impeccably presented and even accessorised with a very apt number plate. Each Atom is hand-assembled by a single technician in the UK, so work is completed to a very high standard.
Condition-wise, there’s very little to report, as this car is just four years old, dry-stored since new and with a mere 276 miles on the clock. We noticed a very small scratch in the carbon fibre on the offside rear mudguard, but otherwise, there appear to be no notable blemishes. The car has never ventured on track and we’re assured that no collision damage has ever occurred.
