Description
This red MGB GT was first registered on 20th October 1971 to a Mr Keith Gillard. It was then sold to a Mrs Jessie Stroud in Taunton for the princely sum of £1, 350 on 12th March 1979 and, our client is in possession of the original handwritten bill of sale; It then passed to a Mrs Louise Walker, also of Taunton. The V5 now shows 6 former keepers before, only 5 prior to 2000 as the last owner had owned it for nearly 20 years. There is a stack of old invoices and MOT’s dating back to 1995, including a partial restoration at Owl Garage in Taunton in 2002 where a lot of the work was carried out at a cost of almost £1, 600.
Our client purchased the car 2 years ago with the intention of restoring it to its former glory and drove it back from Taunton without it missing a beat. After some light preparation work by our client, the was taken to CL Classics in Braintree, a well-known local restorer where unfortunately it sat for a year before the company finally went into liquidation after the founder sadly passed away.
The car was retrieved and yet another £700+ was spent on its recommissioning work which included, overhauling the brakes, 2 new batteries and a fuel pump. Our client has also purchased a new full carpet set (to be fitted) and new seats, which are in place. It is a genuine chrome bumper model, the chrome is in good shape and, the car comes with a stack of spare parts.
The car is now over 50 years old, but it drives exceptionally well and has the original Rostyle Wheels. The car could easily be used regularly with very little work and is of course Tax and MOT exempt however, it will need a respray soon in any case, as there was some corrosion on the bonnet, A-pillar and boot as can be seen in the images.
Our client now wants to focus on his other classic projects, therefore, is offering this rare opportunity for an enthusiast to own this reasonably priced classic chrome bumper MG BGT 1. 8.
This is a very reluctant sale and our client is keen for the MGB GT to go to a good home and be taken back to her former glory.
The car is currently in storage with us so please feel free to get in touch for any further information or to arrange a viewing.
