History The MGB (MG Type B) is an MG (Morris Garages) car manufactured from 1962 to 1980 and available in four successive versions: MK1, MK2, MK3 and MK4. It is often regarded as the archetypal British roadster. Four successive series of MGBs were built: The MGB Mk I, powered by a 1. 8-litre, three-stage engine; the MGB Mk II, powered by an engine of equivalent capacity but with five stages; the MGB Mk III, similar to the previous one but with different finishes (radiator grille, rear lights); the MGB Mk IV, equipped with rubber bumpers, single carburettor and upgraded suspension (in compliance with the anti-collision standards in force in the United States from May 1974). Description This is a very fine MGB, and a 1980 MK IV at that, in the Limited Edition version, in keeping with the characteristics of the period and which is particularly remarkable. The Limited Edition was introduced in 1979 to celebrate 50 years of MG production at Abingdon and was one of the last models built there before the factory closed for good in October 1980. Only around 6, 668 XNUMX units of this version were produced, making this MG B a beloved classic, but also a rare sight on the roads, adding an extra layer of distinction to an already popular MG B. Our example comes from the US and was imported in 2021. The Limited Edition option offered on the 1979 and final year 1980 models included special decorative stripes, wide tyres on special alloy wheels, front air intake, special steering wheel and a few other accessories such as boot rack, head rests, glove box plaque. All the cars were black with black or brown interiors. MG went out of business in 1980, and the aim was probably to sell its cars as quickly as possible and make a bit of money. Having said that, I think the MGB LE is the best looking of the rubber bumper MGB roadsters. EXTERIOR The paint appears to be original and in very good condition for a 45 year old paint job with only minor imperfections and minimal wear, no signs of snagging. INTERIOR Original black interior in very good condition, no tears or cracks anywhere. Very nice dash with a crack on the top and featuring excellent instrumentation, as well as a steering wheel in excellent condition, clear and crisp gauges, very clean door panels and a crack-free center console that houses the 4-speed transmission, AM/ FM stereo, new carpet and soft top, tonneau cover and soft top cover. MECHANICS Maintained by meticulous mechanics, the engine compartment is of high quality, enhanced by an engine that exudes health with the ideal option: 2 SU carburettors to develop 90 HP. Delivered with a power-assisted braking system and a fuel system in good condition, the car received a new water pump and a major overhaul in 2024, with greasing of the front axle, change of fluids and filters. The undercarriage is well protected and the lifting points are solid and intact. The car is fitted with radial tyres, limited edition 5-spoke wheels, a matching spare wheel and a jack in the boot. It comes with its original owner's manual, soft top cover and two sets of keys. The car on offer is in good condition and is truly a car to drive, by which we mean that it is a beautiful vehicle in which you can get in and drive away without any worries. This MG B has remained in the possession of its last owner for 3 years. Although there are a few slight signs of use, the overall appearance is very presentable, with authentic details that preserve the car's charm. The interior is equally well cared for, with only a slight patina on the upholstery that underlines the car's authenticity. This MG offers a pleasant and comfortable driving experience, with a smooth-running engine and a gearbox with precise gear changes. In short, this MG B Roadster Tourer Limited Edition is a charming car in which you can...
