Description

This car has been restored in England and is in very good condition. When it was acquired in 2019, it was prepared to take part in the Mille Miglia. A comprehensive and very expensive mechanical overhaul was undertaken, which also included the upgraded 3. 0-litre version - as developed by Vittorio of Storicar in Brescia, Italy. Storicar is universally recognised as the Lambda specialist par excellence. The gearbox, brakes, suspension, etc. etc. were all rebuilt. Since then, it has been followed by MCC Rally in the Netherlands. MCC Rally is a specialist in making cars reliable for international rallies. With its 3. 0-litre engine developing around 100 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, the car is a high performer. The car has taken part in two recent Mille Miglia rallies, most recently in 2021. The Lancia Lambda is a great way to appreciate pre-war engines in a stunningly engineered car. It will stand out in any crowd and is particularly interesting for the Mille Miglia because of its high coefficient of drag. A high coefficient is essential if you want to finish well in the sporting section of this extraordinary event. Lancia is known in the motoring world for introducing cars with many innovations, and the Lambda is no different. It is one of the most innovative and avant-garde production cars of all time. The surviving examples are cherished by discerning enthusiasts for their unbeatable combination of advanced engineering and superb driving qualities. Pricing is on request. Model history The Lambda was Vincenzo Lancia's first masterpiece, thanks to its many innovations. These included a monocoque chassis, independent front suspension and hydraulic shock absorbers. Presented at the Paris Motor Show in November 1922, the Lancia Lambda was immediately recognised as a new approach to the automobile. The Lancia V4 narrow-angle aluminium engine was also remarkable. It was the first car to be built without the conventional rigid chassis derived directly from horse-drawn carriages. The car's weight and load were supported by a unitary body inspired by ship design. Pinin Farina, who was a novice coachbuilder at the time, later recalled that Vincenzo Lancia's inspiration for this new structural concept came from the robust hulls of the ships in which he often travelled to the United States. In addition to the load-bearing body, another innovation introduced by Lancia on the new car was the independent front suspension. This advance is beautifully illustrated by the drawings of Battista Falchetto, Vincenzo Lancia's trusted chief engineer, who was able to put the entrepreneur's brilliant concepts on paper and into practice. The very rough Italian roads of the time had already caused a leaf spring to break on the front axle of the Lancia Kappa driven by Vincenzo Lancia himself, an accomplished and experienced racing driver, on his way to visit his mother in Valsesia. Following this incident, Lancia asked Falchetto to design the new car with a front suspension capable of absorbing the impact of rough terrain better than a rigid axle, allowing each wheel to rise and fall on its own without affecting the opposite wheel. To further improve the car's dynamic behaviour, it was necessary to shorten the front mechanical part as much as possible, consisting of the engine, clutch and gearbox. Lancia therefore opted for a compact, narrow-angle four-cylinder engine in V configuration, which increased power without compromising reliability. The first version of the 2. 1 litre V4...
