Description
The BMW E9 Coupé Under the famous slogan "Freude ** Fahren" (the pleasure of driving), BMW promoted the CS coupés, elegant and with flawless shapes. They are undoubtedly among the milestones of the BMW house - notably - because of their fantastic six‑cylinder turbocharged engine and its silky-smoothness and their very elegant design. This engine, later called M30, would become one of the pillars of BMW’s good reputation as an engine maker (and was kept in the range until 1996, of course with a wide variety of changes). The block is grey cast iron, the cylinder head aluminium alloy, the overhead camshaft driven by a chain; by varying the bore, displacements from 2. 5 to 3. 5 litres could be obtained. The bodies were built between 1968 and 1975 under subcontracting by BMW at Karmann in Rheine, then transported to Munich to be finished. Not necessarily the best idea, as during the long transport journey some vehicles already suffered considerably from the weather of the time, so that many vehicles disappeared from the market from the early 1980s. The design is attributed to Wilhelm Hofmeister - the famous “Hofmeister kink” on the C‑pillar. Yet we already see this stabilising crease in the BMW 3200 CS, designed by Bertone. In any case, Italian styling elements are undeniably present on the BMW E9, which greatly contributes to the lightness and finesse of its appearance. The early models were the 2800 CS with 170 hp, followed by the 3. 0 CS (180 hp) in carburettor version. In autumn 1971, the first injected petrol variant, the 3. 0 CSI (200 hp), was added. Scuderia Sportiva Colonia paid particular attention to these highly accomplished coupés. The ravishing shape, the excellent chassis, the very good brakes and the powerful engine were – at the start of the 1970s – the absolute reference. The interior pampered its owner with luxurious materials, the seats are very comfortable with acceptable lateral support and the individually inset round VDO instruments are still a feast for the eyes today. A car tester wrote so aptly that if James Bond had been German, he would have chosen a BMW E9 as his company car, while certainly appreciating the power steering of the CSI. History of the BMW 3. 0 CSI -SSC-574 offered here This BMW E9 3. 0 CSI with chassis number 22632xx was delivered by BMW in Italy in October 1972 and was first registered there on 16 October 1972. According to Italian registration documents: carta di circolazione, we could identify only two previous owners to date. Other Italian documents include the "certificato di proprietà". Condition of the BMW 3. 0 CSI -SSC-574 offered here Since our inception, we have had the opportunity to sell and/ or handle more than 200 BMW E9s. So far we have rarely encountered vehicles that were mostly in their original condition. This CSI undoubtedly belongs to that category. Clearly, it has never been in an accident, has not been restored, it is unusually free of rust traces, the interior is covered with original moquette and in excellent condition, the bodywork has been repainted once, the chrome has a trace of patina. At critical points, no faults. Because of the long period of immobilisation in Italy, we will now overhaul the original engine, restore the chassis, including new bearings and new Bilstein shock absorbers, as well as the braking system with new pipes, pads and discs. For safety, the old underbody protection will be removed and vitrified again. By the end of April at the latest, this original BMW 3. 0 CSI will be available to its new owner with a completely-new drivetrain. The factory-fitted air conditioning is a particular asset. After the engine overhaul, this car should still be run in accordance with factory specifications. Currently, this BMW still has its original Italian registration documents. For German clients, we offer for this BMW E9 a new technical inspection with registration certificate pursuant to §25a for historic vehicles (Oldtimer). Summary Until today, BMW E9 models are considered one of the most beautiful BMWs ever built. They offer space for 4 people and their relatively large boot allows for plenty of luggage. Few 1970s cars combine elegance, sportiness and comfort as pleasantly as the BMW E9. Scuderia Sportiva Colonia has taken on the mission of dedicating itself with passion and commitment to the preservation of these fantastic vehicles. It’s a coupé...
