Description

History of the BMW E9 Coupé The BMW E9 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic models in automotive history. It still embodies today the perfect blend of elegance and performance. It made its first big appearance in 1968 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) with the unveiling of the 2800 CS – a model that laid the foundations for the future success of this range. The arrival of the 3. 0 CSI in autumn 1971 marked a decisive turning point: equipped with fuel injection and 200 hp, this coupé set new standards. The design of the E9 is a masterclass in automotive elegance. The long bonnet, the flowing lines and the sporty profile give the 3. 0 CSI a unique presence on the road. Particularly notable: the famous Hofmeister kink on the C-pillar, named after designer Wilhelm Hofmeister. There is also Italian influence: this style was already visible on the BMW 3200 CS designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone. This stylistic fusion gives the E9 a lightness and finesse rare for its era. But the E9 is not only distinguished by its aesthetics. Under the bonnet, a powerful 3. 0-litre inline-six delivers sporting performance. 0 to 100 km/ h is achieved in under eight seconds – an impressive performance, whether on the motorway or on winding roads, combining dynamism and comfort. The E9 also left a mark on motor racing. It served as the basis for many racing models developed by BMW Motorsport in the 1970s, setting new benchmarks. The combination of technical perfection and refined design made the 3. 0 CSI a highly sought-after model in its day. Produced in only 8, 144 units, the 3. 0 CSI is today a highly coveted piece among collectors. Driving this coupé is to dive into a bygone automotive era without losing any of its magic. The BMW E9 3. 0 CSI remains a timeless symbol of style, innovation and driving pleasure – a masterpiece that continues to captivate enthusiasts worldwide. History of the BMW 3. 0 CSi -SSC-623 offered here The BMW 3. 0 CSi, VIN 22635xx, was ordered on 25 July 1972 by Dr Ludwig M. d’Oberursel at the BMW Friedel & Zervas dealership in Frankfurt, in the rare colour Inka (022) with a black interior. According to our research, only 11 BMW 3. 0 CSi were ordered in this shade. The additional options ordered included: electric windows at the front, a second exterior mirror, a radio with automatic antenna, as well as three-point seatbelts. On 12 October 1972, the vehicle was completed, the corresponding invoice issued, and shortly after, it was registered under the plate HG-V 500. Until 1985, Dr M. kept every service or repair invoice, even the most minor. In 2010, Eric Bunte, founder of the legendary German Exclusive company in the Netherlands, acquired this exceptional CSI with the aim of restoring it to its original configuration, then adding it to his private collection. The bodywork was professionally restored and faithful to the details, then repainted in its original colour. Lacking time and capacity, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia was commissioned to complete the vehicle’s assembly. Current photos testify to this. In addition to the original sound-deadening mats, Scuderia installed an extra layer of acoustic insulation. The plastified body-side trim is currently polished to a high gloss. Please note: The new owner still has a choice of final configuration for the vehicle: • Original black velour seats or, on special request, black leather • Original 4-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed overdrive • Restored original engine with 200 hp, or a discreetly tuned version with programmable fuel injection and electronic ignition developing 240 hp • Choice of wheels: 14-inch Pedrini wheels with chromed hubcaps or Alpina 16-inch replicas The customization possibilities are practically unlimited. In short: a perfect, almost-new BMW 3. 0 CSi, in one of the rarest, most elegant and sporty colour combinations, is prepared by us according to the new owner’s wishes. Once finished, the vehicle will be run-in according to factory guidelines. We also offer a one-year warranty, provided all maintenance work is carried out in our workshop. Summary Scuderia Sportiva Colonia places particular emphasis on these technically advanced coupés. With their captivating lines, excellent chassis, formidable brakes and powerful engine, these vehicles represented – at the early 1970s – the absolute benchmark. The BMW slogan “The Joy of Driving” takes on its full meaning in the BMW E9, in a unique and inimitable way...
