MGB GT – In stunning order
When MG switched over to unitary construction in 1962 the ‘B’ was born and gone were the decades of chassis mounted production. Three years after the ‘B’ roadster the GT was shown to the public and it came with the improved five bearing crank ‘B’ series engine. Over the next fifteen years more than 125k were sold and here at Milestones we have one of the very best examples first registered in Bristol January 1969.
The history file shows six owners before being taken on by the Saunders family in Southampton, the invoices confirm they carried out a full ‘no expense spared restoration’. The work was entrusted to MHC MacPherson Coachworks in Dorset and invoices state new chrome plus front and rear wings, repaint etc totalling £6k was completed in November 1988.
Fast forward to 2015 and a letter left in the file explains the next owner purchased the GT from Southampton, removing the car from a lock up where it had been stored since the late 80’s. Over the next two years this MG received new carpets, tailgate, brakes, fuel system including tank and carbs plus a re-spray, seat re-trim and wire wheel re-furb ect ect.
This GT enjoys the right visuals,
starting with a superb Old English White paint finish which contrasts with black leather seats featuring cream piping. Showing just 54k miles the engine performs perfectly with smooth clutch courtesy of recent slave and master cylinders plus a very precise overdrive. Under the bonnet is all about originality with sensible upgrades like the stainless-steel exhaust whilst the Moto-lita steering wheel presents a little glam to the standard dash. Many enthusiasts consider the MGB to be the best driving classic from the sixties and with parts in abundance plus a healthy club scene.
It is no surprise correct and honest ‘B’s are sought after. If your requirement is an MG that is ready to go, drives as it should and is going to turn heads throughout this summer, call and arrange a test drive.
