Triumph Toledo – 5 0wners/ 11k miles/ Outstanding
The Triumph Toledo replaced the FWD 1300 in Triumph’s model range in 1970. The 1300 had been an expensive car to produce and Triumph reverted to the tried and tested longitudinal arrangement of engine – gearbox – live rear axle. Despite not being a technological revolution, the car enjoyed a higher specification than most of its competitors and when eventually replaced by the Dolomite nearly 120, 000 units had been manufactured.
On 1st March 1976 Miss Mary Maud Ellis had her new Toledo delivered from Hewitt’s (Walsall) to her house in Powys. The Toledo was her pride and joy and she used the car sparingly up to 1993 when the car was put away in her garage until 2008 when her nephew liberated the car with just 5, 300 miles on the clock and original factory (plastic) seat covers.
The car passed to a family friend who stored the car for another five years until purchased on 21st February 2013 when it was recommissioned, passed an MOT & taxed for the first time in 20 years.
Milestone Classics travel further than most to find our exceptional cars and when we were contacted by a long-standing customer who advised that he owned one of the best Toledo’s in the country we could not resist.
Today the Toledo is one of the most original examples that you could wish to own. The car drives perfectly, the interior looks around two years old and the body looks stunning (having received paint some years ago) and has absolutely no corrosion issues. Under the bonnet is utterly original – just how we like to see our cars.
We have driven the Toledo for around 100 miles (we complete extended test drives for all our cars prior to sale) and the car is an absolute delight – Jamie would like to keep it as his everyday run-around!
There is a huge history folder with original Bill of Sale, all MOT’s, Passport to Service, Supercover labels, Brochures, Invoices, Owners Handbook, Show Plaques – it is one of the best we have ever seen.
Cars with this provenance/ in this condition rarely come to market. The Toledo would sit well in any garage, and we recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this remarkable little Triumph.
