This type of XR2i is becoming more difficult to find and consequently the prices are rising. A car that looks good as it has been well cared for throughout its life. The mileage alone is a testament to this. It presents itself very well indeed in a lovely mercury grey colour. It has had a full respray and is finished in a high quality Glasurit lacquer which gives it a “wet look” show shine.
The bodywork is very good indeed as there is not a single dent anywhere on the car. It is straight and all panel gaps are good.
There is no rot to be found on the underside. A couple of small bits of welding were carried out prior to the repaint, but nothing structural, and then it has been undersealed.
The alloys have been sandblasted and powder coated.
Mechanically, the engine drives well and the car has had a new clutch, new radiator, gearbox mounts, half shaft seals, water pump and cambelt.
The car is almost completely original and unmolested apart from the exhaust and stereo which were fitted by a previous owner. It has covered a mere 79, 808 miles. Which is very low for a car of this age.
Just back from the garage where it successfully passed the MOT with no advisories.
The engine runs well, the car drives well, and the interior is in a very good condition (only exception is a very small cigarette burn on the driver’s seat).
Surprisingly, no speaker holes have been cut into the parcel shelf.
Overall, a very good low mileage XR2i which should give the buyer many years of happy motoring. All of the work has been carried out by a fulltime vehicle restorer in a purpose-built workshop. It has not been bodged or corners cut.
