Introduced in 2008 to celebrate land rover’s 60th anniversary, the special edition defender svx featured a number of unique factory fitted options including heated leather recaro front seats, a heated front windscreen and special black and silver coachwork complete with an external roll-cage.
it also has svx-only tweaks to the suspension, which helps it ride and handle better than any standard defender. As such, the defender svx falls into the category of a sure-fire land rover investment, especially given the recent demise of the original defender.
almost all the svx defender 110s ever built were left-hand-drive, making this right-hand-drive example extraordinarily rare. As a uk-spec but export-market-only vehicle, it was exported to hong kong (originally registered as 'md 2961') before being reimported by the second owner (who worked and spent part of his time in hong kong). it is road registered and fully legal in the uk. Since taking ownership (third owner) in dec'17 i have spend considerable time and effort to include further tweaks and enhancements.
as the 110 was never officially offered in the united kingdom - the limited rhd's that were built were the short-wheel-base defender 90 – you are highly unlikely to ever see another offered for sale here in great britain.
sold originally by warwick motors ltd in hong kong on 15th october 2008, it is also a rare specification for an svx as most were a standard 110 station wagon configuration. However in hong kong all imported land rovers have to be categorised as a light goods vehicle. For 110s this meant that there could not be any rear side windows and there had to be some type of divider between the rear load space and the passenger compartment leading to the configuration that you see here.
i have 102, 000 miles on the clock (while the speedometer has been converted to read in mph, the odometer is still reading in kms) this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a genuine 110 svx with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car.
all the standard-fit land rover svx tweaks are present and are supplemented by a number of carefully considered modifications including aluminium door hinges with stainless steel door pins, and aluminium billet door and bonnet hinges and door handles at a cost of several thousand pounds. The roll gage as been removed galvanised and powder coated black within the past 6 months - transforming the look. The grill and vents have been upgraded to zunsport further enhancing the look. Original black hinges and handles are available should the next owner want to put them back on.
the vehicle has also had extensive soundproofing fitted at a cost of around £2, 000, along with new door seals and rubber floor mats in 2018.
the interior benefits from all of the factory fitted svx updates including heated leather recaro front seats and the updated dashboard that finally brought the defender kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Svx seats originally had cloth inserts but the first owner had these re-trimmed in full leather.
