Sales information
This unique SS 1 Coupe was delivered by the English dealer Fogdens to John Manning of Essex on June 9, 1933. John paid the then considerable sum of £325 for it and owned the car until 1954, when George South, also living in Essex, became the second owner. He kept the SS until 1970 and sold it with 78. 809 miles on the odometer to Delbert Mortimer of Michigan, USA. An interesting detail is that, according to the accompanying invoice, the crossing to the USA was by freighter named "Atlantic Champagne," and the transport cost was $321. The American Mortimer repainted the body in cream with beige fenders. Then, in 1975, Richard Nordin, also from Michigan, took over the driving duties. After 15 years, the crossing to Europe was made again and in 1990 Nordin sold the car to Swiss Haehnle, who in turn handed the keys over to fellow countryman Mooser in 2012.
The above demonstrates that the entire history of this SS 1 Coupe is extensively documented, including the complete restoration carried out in Austria from 2004 to 2009. Numerous photos and invoices attest to a highly professional restoration where originality and perfection were the guiding principles. An exception was made for the color, which was originally black with a brown interior. The current (and also original SS color) Apple Green makes the SS even more special and further emphasizes its beautiful lines.
Currently, the SS, of which only 1372 were built, is part of an impressive SS/ Jaguar collection and is being sold because the owner still owns a similar, completely unrestored example and considers two of the same type redundant. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who want to see perfection, quality, and exclusivity combined in a beautiful and sublimely driving coupe.
