Description
Created by legendary engineer Vittorio Jano, the Alfa Romeo 6C is rightly regarded as one of the greatest automobiles of all time. Launched in 1925 with an engine capacity of 1500cc the new model achieved many successes in top-flight motorsport. With the introduction of the 3rd Series in 1929 the engine was enlarged to 1750cc and the Super Sport model was equipped with a supercharger which increased power and performance further still.
Chassis no. 0312948 is a 3rd Series Super Sport purchased as a project from US restorer and vintage Alfa Romeo dealer Keith Hellon in 1972 by a notable Italian collector. The 6Cs original engine was found in the US, purchased and reunited with the car in 1974.
The rear bodywork was missing when it was purchased so a replacement section was fabricated in the style of the 1929 Alfa Romeo 1500 Super Sport Ghia Siluro. The wings and bonnet are believed to be original.
Currently, the chassis is restored and painted, and the body has received primer ready for painting. The engine appears to be ready for assembly and the gearbox needs to be mounted but will need new gears.
The other mechanical parts (brakes, suspensions, steering box, etc.) were mounted some years ago so will need to be checked. The electrical system is complete but connections need to be fabricated and assembled. No seats are present so replacements will need to be made or sourced.
The dashboard instruments are all present, as are lights, oil and petrol tanks, various caps, windshield wipers, steering wheel and various other details. A set of 6 wheels are also included with the car.
Documents present are those from the sale of the car by Keith Hellon and from the sale of the engine plus importation papers from America.
An exciting opportunity to complete a genuine matching numbers Alfa Romeo 6C 3rd Series Super Sport.
